Been checking the web, any differences between an air flow meter or an air mass flow meter?

Re: new subject as requested, on board computer.
Hi again. A few years ago I had the same message " engine control... " The reason was the one of glow plugs in my diesel engine got broken. I think this message can be seen in many circumstances
The best way to be shure what is this is to connect to service computer.
And once again, check all the cables you can, this is the "Achilles heel" of this car.

Re: new subject as requested, on board computer.
Hello again roman and everyone, will pay the piper and take the car to a lancia garage, just to be sure after the blown turbo and intercooler story. could be a glow plug, my old golf started quicker and smoother than the k! alarm will be looked at this weekend by neighbour after i give it a go again, (have taken ear plugs from work!!). can live with the missing lines on display until i sort these other problems.
going to italy in a few weeks, anyone know if its cheaper to buy parts there if it is the airflow meter etc.
gong to search the web for closest lancia dealer now.
maybe for a towbar too!

Re: new subject as requested, on board computer.
After reading about airflow-meter... I got the idea that I need to test if 0-100 km/h = 7,3 seconds. Well sligtly more (or less) is acceptable (especially less hehe). Even thought they are rarely all used it would be pretty sad if the car couldn't deliver 220 bhp because of some faulty #§&%* airflow-meter.

guess who ran out of diesel? oh yeah, right across the road from the petrol station, facing downhill!
my golf would go into the red, onto the white and still go some,
decided to fill up nearer my house as opposed to on the motorway. after soliciting help from many french speakers, considering my french is pretty bad, managed to push the car to the pump, fill up and sit for 5 minutes until the diesel found its way to the important end of the car.
lesson learned, after 800 km, must fill up.
all i could think of was the display saying SYSTEM FAILURE. all i could say was "please dont f**king do this to me on a friday night"
as homer simpson would say, DOH!!
anybody else with good moments/bad moments with their k?

Do you wanna know about a bad K moment ? I'll tell you about a bad K moment...
2 weeks ago I lost 1 head light, and has you might know, head lights failure don't show on the computer but when it got dark I could see that it was a bit less bright than normal ... head light missing confirmed ... oh-oh I thought ... this is xenon lights ...a lamp can cost arround 150 euros ... crap!
Oh well... anyway, I needed to be sure that it was the lamp, because it could also be a fuse, cables or even the balast. As you might know, xenon lamps work with balasts.
After a few tests, the lamp turns out to be ok... good I thought, I'm not gonna spend 150 euros on a lamp.
After a few more tests I got to a conclusion - It was the electronic balast. The price of this part was a little more than 500 euros.
Now, when I ordered the part, the guy on Lancia shop told me that, in more that 10 years on that shop and being that shop the bigest in portugal, he never sold a xenon balast for a lancia K ... I was the first one ... now, how luck is that ?!
500 euros later, head light was working fine again...
I think that this one qualify as a bad K moment... eheh

Re: get to know your car
bad and expensive!
best moment? for me it was driving to scotland in my friends k (i'm not totally new to the model, found out how comfortable the k is on that journey, wanted one ever since!) and back on the same weekend.
long story short covered more than 3000 km in 4 days (lived in nijmegen in the netherlands at that time), mostly at night on desolate motorways, a few times at 2x the legal speed limit.
not smart i know, but we were the only ones on the road. after 3-4 hours hard driving, still felt fresh getting out of the car. no aches or pains!
leaking brake fluid from rear caliper was a worry point though!
when he bought the car the last owner had lowered it slightly, i think 17 or 18 inch rims, and it handled beautifully. same comfort ride, more stability.
car was a 2 litre on lpg, cost virtually nothing on fuel the whole weekend!

Re: get to know your car
Kind of similar to Duarte's bad moment with the "I never sold one of those before"...
Maybe 18 months back the little brasslookalike pipe from cooler to turbo looked like it could crack any moment (bad corrosion). And because I like the turbo and the engine in general I think it would be pretty sad to let it happen hehe...
But the dealer almost didn't believe me when I told him which part I needed, cause he never sold one of these before!
It was exaclty the same story when some of the oilpipes (to and from the oilcooler) looked very bad and with several black spots in the driveway it needed get fixed ASAP! "Gee I never sold one of those before".
Before both visits to the dealer (where the K has been serviced every single time - both previous owner and me), he assured me on the phone that they had every single part available for the Kappa. Hmm funny they don't have any of what I needed then...
Every time I heard that sentence "Gee I never repaired or sold that part before on any Kappa" I simply feel the shouting "Maybe it's because that there is only around 6 Kappa 20VT's in Denmark and one of those has to be the first one?"... grrr
But anyways... incredibly nice car... and always remember that all the other carbrands got more or less the same kind of problems (a friend of mine have spent nearly 4.000 euro keeping his 1999 VW Caravelle going - the past year only!).

Re: get to know your car
Do you want to know my bad moment?
Last year all of the sudden one cold morning, the car wouldn not start the engine.
Everything was working, starter motor, injection , fuel pump, sparks everything. So after sending the car(k 16v turbo) to the garage, my tecnhician said that it was something that had to do with the ecu unit.Out the unit and courier sent it to UK in specialists.Nobody could find anything, cpu seemed to be falty, so I started to look for a second one since the new one had 1200 euros.
At this point and before I was desperate to find a second hand unit, another specialist phoned me and said that the ecu had a problem with the security chip in it.He tried to fix it(change it) and then post me with dhl the unit back to Greece. As a last desperate move I put the unit back on and we try to turn on the engine. Supprise!! Everything worked just fine...What happened? who knows?...
Cost> 430 euros,(most of them dhl)
time>5 months
