The damage of the valve stem look for me like a broken spring ( the small one inside )
To have a damage / scratches like this you need a really hard and sharp material like a
broken spring.

Maybe the spring was replaced by someone and the valves were reused.
My personal opinion.

The car is a 68 model, but the whole body was changed in 1970 after a major crash in a race in Sicily. The available body in 1970 was a 1.5 series, with peralluman doors and bonnet, and the long tunnel.
Mechanically is 100% S1 including the 4 speed gear box with short gears and LSD.
