Stock beta spring dimensions

Unread post by Jason George »

Hi all,

Working on a '76 Beta coupe. I'm rebuilding the suspension and because no one in my town tests springs, I was wondering if someone knew the dimensions for the stock springs - front and rear.

I'd like to know if mine have compressed/distorted any and therefore, if I need to replace them.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Jason:

According to the Technical Data book, the "released" length of the front springs (removed from the car) on the coupe is 409 mm, or 16.1 inches.

There are also two tests for the spring when under load. Under a load of 370 kg (give or take 13 kg), or 816 lbs (give or take 28.6 lbs), the front spring should measure 183.5 mm or 7.224 inches. Under a load of 497 kg, or 1095.6 lbs, the front spring should measure 113.5 mm or 4.469 inches.

For the rear springs, the "released" length is 323.8 mm or 12.748 inches. Under a load of 265 kg (give or take 13 kg) or 584.2 lbs (give or take 28.66 lbs), the rear spring should measure 186 mm or 7.323 inches. Under a load of 409 kg or 901.7 lbs, the rear spring should measure 111 mm or 4.37 inches.

The springs come marked in either yellow or green. These specifications apply to both types.

Best of luck with your project.

One more detail. The above specifications are for the "U.S.A." model. The European model may have different specifications. I suspect that your car will conform to the "U.S.A." specifications.
