79 Zagato Exhaust Gasket

Hi all,

I need to replace exhaust manifold gasket, the Haynes manual says
engine needs to be pulled to make room because of EGR fitting. At this point I don't care about EGR working or not. Is there a way to replace gasket without pulling engine out of car ??

Sounds a bit extreme can you get at all the fixing nuts to undo them? if so you may be able to pull the exhaust off the studs, or also jack the engine away from the exhaust the mountings will flex a little. (what a mess of pipes the egr is glad we never had that in europe! )
Extreme alternative if you can access nuts/studs - loosen nuts, lock another nut to original & wind studs out slip new gasket between head & manifold - lot of if's with this 'solution' if old gasket removes easily, etc access is awful good luck!
