Steel Wheel Color(s)
Steel Wheel Color(s)
Hello All-
Question as to original wheel color.
Car is a Rallye Coupe, Series One, in Bianco Saratoga Black interior.
Were the steel wheels the same color as the bodywork as I have seen in early color brochures?
Or, were they the standard cream color.
I have been told they were never silver(argento?)
In otherwords, were there different steel wheel colors for different coachwork colors?
Thanks

Re: Steel Wheel Color(s)
To my knowledge all steel coupé wheels were cream or light grey as on my 2C. Exept maybe the last series one the ralley 13S in a lusso edition. The same wheels were used on the Zagato but are painted silver on the 1.3 Zagato bodied cars. The 1.2 Zagato had cream wheels.
Re: Steel Wheel Color(s)
Hi Sam,
My Series One's steel wheels look like they were originally cream, though owners have since applied silver, black, and dark grey over that. No sign that they were ever color matched to the coachwork.
I took a quite look through the Lancia books I have on hand, to see if there were pictures of Series Ones with different colored wheels. Most of the period shots seem to be b&w, so it's a little hard to be definitive, but all I could find were cream colored examples (or alloys).
If you repaint yours cream, be sure to post the color you use, as I intend to refinish the wheels on mine when I need new rubber.
Regards
p.s. wheel color aside, how's the car?

Hi Shaun-
Thanks for the input!
Will continue to due some reasearch on this topic.
Seams a little strange to do cream on a white car, looks great on green, red or blue for example.
Bianca (the car) is at my Dads in Central Illinois, so I have not seen her since July 12!
He is cleaning, oiling and genenally trying to re-commision her. He loves this kind of stuff though!
Brakes are a mess, as the previous owner cut cables, lines and bolts!! to free her up. ARGH!
Have compression(even) so we might due a test fire in the next month or so.
I general very good and 98% complete for a car that had been sitting for 25+ years,
but evidence is life had been hard at times. Just needs some TLC.
Ciao!

Re: Steel Wheel Color(s)
Sam,
Does your Dad require a reservation, or can I just bring my car by? I've got my application in for the California Melee rally in September, and my Fulvia ought to have a going-over before 800+ miles of upstate backroads.
Keep us posted on the awakening of your new acquisition.

Re: Steel Wheel Color(s)
Hi Sam,
I have many of the Fulvia factory color brochures; from what I’ve seen the Coupe wheels are always cream.
I’ve sent you an e-mail with a scan from the “Lancia: we work for perfection” brochure, which shows a Coupe in Bianco Saratoga (which is really a gray off-white) with tobacco interior and cream steel wheels. The difference between the ‘white’ of the body and the cream of the wheels shows fairly clearly; the difference is even more pronounced in the page captioned “Fulvia Coupe a youthful car”. I've checked two other color brochures, and they also show only cream steel wheels on the Coupes.
SIlver steel wheels do appear on the S1 Fulvia Sport, as can be clearly seen in the "Le Maggiorate" brochure.
Regards,
Ed

Shaun-
I think he would, but if you came by he would fit you in!!
He is not as Lancia savy as Jaan (YET!)
But, he is the best intuitive mechanic I have ever known besides being my Dad.
Again thanks for your comments and if Huib will walk me though it I will try and post some photos
of Bianca.

Re: Steel Wheel Color(s)
RAL 9001 is exactly the correct color for the steel wheels. This colorcode can be obtained very easy also in powdercoating.
Re: Steel Wheel Color(s)
William-
Thanks for your help on this subject.
Do you have a preference paint vs powder coat?
RAL 9001 from what Manufactuer?
Where do we get the color code?

Sam

Re: Steel Wheel Color(s)
what is being sought ? perfect originality or nice looks ?
I'd try - for eggx sample - a nice Lancia yellow for the wheels of a mid-green to dark-green car..
or a bright (matching) red on a bright red car...
matching when the car has a color than allows "bright wheels"; not...for example a dark-blue car.
contrasting when a contrast would/could look good. Ligher-Lancia blue on a darker car.
Unless originiality is desired.
I can't help but agree that a creme-wheel-color can't look (to me I's) "spiffy" on a whitish car; unless the white wheel (creme) white matches the (white) cream white of the car.
For a "ooh ooh ooh"contrast...match the wheel color to the prime-interior color.
Hmmm, what udder passi bility's are passi bill ?
Janis Joplin Porsche 356 paint scheme ?
or invite Calder to "have a go" at it ?
