gearbox differences
gearbox differences
Hi Guys, Is there a difference between a series 2 1300 5spd box and that of a 1600hf?
Re: gearbox differences
Only the gear ratios are different. 1600 box being more close ratio thanks to a longer first gear and closed up 3rd & 4th gears. The 1600 box with 1300 final drive would be an improvement over the 1300 5-speed in any 1300 fulvia!
Re: gearbox differences
And even the 1600 HF had a different gearing than the Sport 1600 but I do not know the exact differences - William?
Re: gearbox differences
According to Weernink:
the S2 1300 5-speed is 4.169/2.698/1.793/1.284/1.0, with a final drive of 11/43 for coupes, and 10/37 for the Sport;
the S2 1600 5-speed is 3.846/2.473/1.719/1.317/1.0, with a final drive of 11/43 for HF coupes, and 11/39 for the Sport.
In other words, the 1600 gearbox has closer ratios all the way up the box (only the 'direct' 5th is the same), the final drives are exactly the same for the S2 coupes (whether 1300 or1600HF), and the 1600 gearing is exactly the same for coupes and Sport--it's the final drive that's different.

Re: gearbox differences
Furthermore the 1300 zagato 5-speed has a final drive of 10:37 (same as 4 speed series 1 coupés) and 11:39 for the 1600 zagato (same as 4 speed 1300 zagato). Intermediate gears are the same for both coupé and Zagato boxes. the difference in final drive between series 1 and 2 cars is compensated for by the larger tires.
Re: gearbox differences
hello,the limited serie fulvia 1.3s montecarlo are 5 speeds = 1.3s coupe (11/43) but final ratio 10 /41

Where do you get this information? All of the published literature indicates that all 818.630/631 coupes--1.3S, Montecarlo, Fulvia 3, Safari--are exactly the same: 11/43 final drive.

Re: gearbox differences
Interesting, but Vanzetti's information disagrees with both Altorio and Weernink. Ordinarily, I'd regard Altorio (Lancia Fulvia HF e tutte le altre Fulvia: berlina, Coupe e Sport) as being definitive, but Vanzetti may have had a reason for going to the trouble of recalculating all the ratios.
I only have an S1 parts catalogue, but I assume that someone with an S2 parts catalogue could determine which of the conflicting sources is correct.

Re: gearbox differences
The TAV does indeed show the 10/41 being the final drive for the Montecarlo and Berlina, with a 9/41 being optional for the Berlina.
