Lancia sales in France

Unread post by daniel pottier »

In February, in France, FIAT sold 219 cars. It is a 36% less than in february 2005.

In january and february LANCIA has lost 22,1 % of it's 2005 sales .

For more figures in french : http://www.ccfa.fr

Has anyone the other european countries figures ?

In 2005 LANCIA has sold 4 414 cars (mostly Ypsilon and Musa).

actually in fact it looks like Fiat sold 4,169 cars and it was Lancia that sold 219 cars...

but when the French will only buy a few 100 Lancias, 36% isn't really such an important number. It means in 2/2005 they sold 342 cars and now they sold 123 less than last year around. Big deal, its peanuts..

Dear RYAN

Sorry if my post was confusing

When I wrote FIAT, it was on purpose, LANCIA is just a brand of the FIAT group.

I agree : the sales are peanuts because they have nothing to sale.
Sometime people asl if LANCIA is still existing !

But for sure there must also be a national bias that exists. The Lancia Ypsilon and Musa are both very good products in their segment and obviously deserve more than a few hundred sales a month.

There's a bit of nationalism everywhere but judging from my very unscientific study of cars visible in Paris, over two visits there (spring 2003 and spring 2004) I saw evidence of a drastic reduction in Lancias on view in the second of those years. The Ypsilon is fine but many people want a real car and the old Lancias I saw on the streets of Paris confirm this, with sightings of Kappa, multiple Themas obviously still well-loved, and multiple Dedras sadly not so well-loved. I saw one Thesis on the first visit. Oddly enough, I don't remember seeing Lybras on either visit.

I think Daniel is right; you have to have something to sell. There was no shortage of Alfa 156 cars on either visit and even the 166 was sighted nearly every day. So much for nationalism.

A similar unscientific study in Amsterdam (spring 2003 and summer 2005) showed that even this robust Lancia market has declined. I saw 2 Thesis in a three day 2003 stay and none over eight days in 2005. I saw disturbingly fewer Lybras in the second visit while they had been plentiful in 2003. I did see a nice second series Fulvia coupe in 2005.

I won't comment on the minivans because that type of vehicle is so visually unappealing to me that I wouldn't know a Lancia Musa if it ran me down in the street.

Think yourselves lucky you get to see any. Here in the UK you can go weeks without seeing one. On holiday in France last month I saw very few Lancia. Although one Kappa sedan whose owner must have thought it was an Intergrale given the amount of mud on it.

Poland had few, but Budapest last summer had a small number of all, including 3 Thesis sightings. I suppose we must go to Italy before any significant numbers can be sighted.

Switzerland figures for Italian makes:

Dec 2005 compared to Dec 2004 and Jan to Dec 2005 compared to 2004

Alfa Romeo 211 371 -43.1 3'985 4'978 -19.9
Ferrari 8 9 -11.1 287 227 26.4
Fiat 684 576 18.8 7'309 7'985 -8.5
Lancia 62 82 -24.4 1'003 1'165 -13.9
Maserati 12 24 -50.0 261 255 2.4

JANUARY 2006 compared to Jan 2005

Alfa Romeo 280 361 -22.4
Ferrari 19 29 -34.5
Fiat 658 751 -12.4
Lancia 51 72 -29.2
Maserati 16 33 -51.5

January 2006 looks bad! Ferrari+Maserati are selling nearly as many cars as Lancia...here in Geneva one sees a few Lybras and Ypsilons and lots of the older models; the odd Thesis makes an appearance every now and then too...the new Croma has been on the market since last summer and I've only seen one Swiss and one French registered example each on the roads; the new Punto is already popping up every now and then as is the Alfa 159. The Lancia Musa is appearing every so often and its different enough (at least from the front) to stand out.

regards from Geneva,
Philip

Thanks to everyone for the answers.
I notice that many LANCIA were sold in BELGIUM, more than 50% of the french total - This is probably the reason why during a week end in BRUSSELS I saw as many LANCIA as in a week in PARIS.

I will watch the march figures and if they are as bad as they are now, ........

Regards
