I have spec as (Metric) 2.5M Kgs. It is not very tight. If you over tighten them you will strip them. I have had to fit helicoils to three bolts already because of someone previously over tightening.

Check your cam caps are actually matched to your cylinder head. Also make sure the cam cap bolts are the correct length. If both OK and good threads in head you will not strip any threads at 18lbft.

According to my head specialist 18 ft lb in alloy M8 thread is quite high. His reference books showed mostly 10 ft lb - but hey its a lancia!!!

I have had all dubious threads repaired - some by welding and most by inserts before fitting timeserts.

I took the precaution of fitting studs to get the best mechanically stable platform.

I reassember the head yesterday, fitted it and time the 1016 cams today and fired it up.

Hope ok but will look under the cam cover in a few days to retourque the head and cap bolts.

Fingers crossed.

2,2 kgm would be more normal for grade 8.8 M8 bolts, but the book is very clear. It says 2,5.

Remember that the bolts not only carry the counter force for opening the valves but also suffer from the rocker cover bolts

Did you fit studs of grade 8.8 or better?
Standard studs are less than 8.8.
