Front wheel bearing needed

Unread post by Kraig »

Does anyone have a source in or near the western part of the US that carries wheel bearings for Series 1 Fulvias?

I'm in California, and would like to deal with someone who stocks parts, and can accept credit cards for expedited shipping.

Thanks,
Kraig

Kraig-

Mike Kristick(Pennsylvania) is the only total Fulvia part supplier I know of in the US.
He does not take credit cards, he mails it and an invoice and you pay by check.
He'll probably have that on the shelf. FYI replacing the wheel bearing requires a special tool.
If you find someone else who carries that part or others please share that knowledge.
Hope this helps.

Huib has CDs available that contain workshop manuals and other technical data. On one of these is a spreadsheet that gives SKF reference numbers for many (all?) bearings on Fulvias and other models. I looked up the front wheel entries, and for all series the SKF number is given as 633032 A.

I don't know whether this would mean anything to an SKF distributor, and, anyway, the chances of one local to you having the right bearing on the shelf is probably quite low.

As Sam says, Mike Kristick is an excellent source for Fulvia parts in the USA. His e-mail is makristick@aol.com.

Thanks for all the info. Mike Kristick has the part, but has asked me to send, by mail, a check before he will send the part out to me.. He won't take a credit card or Pay Pal. I can see this turning into a month long quest to find a part that shold be fairly easy to come by.

I've just heard from Andrew at Omicron in the UK. He claims that there are two special tools needed to remove and replace the bearing, and he'd be glad to lend me the tools (for a price!).

Can anyone confirm the need for specialized tools for this procedure?

I'll try and look for the SKF bearing locally. You'd be surprised what one can find in Southern California!

Kraig,

There's a discussion on replacing wheel bearings here:

Bearing thread

Mike is usually pretty good about shipping things out. I don't think you'd have to wait a month ;-)

Hi,

I think Huib can deliver the bearings as well(and the Fulvia CD's ), and he can accept Paypal.

This is true, but I prefer Kraig buys the bearing from any of the sponsors above.

And it is true special tools are needed.

I am of course happy to accept an order for CD's.

Kraig,

Get a loan of, or make the tools needed. There is no other way to get these bearings out; or to work on Lancias in general, for that matter.
If you have access to a workshop and lnowlegable person you might be able to come up with an alternative modern bearing which can be fitted along with machined adaptors. Hoever, if you can get the originals, go for them.

Maybe someone like Steve Snyder or Steve Katzman in the San Fran area has the tools, or else Tony Nicosia in Costa Mesa. Other than that, I too recommend Mike Kristick. Its just life with these big bearings needs these tools.
