Solex carbs

Unread post by FennLane »

I am not very familiar with Solex carbs and wondered if there are any good articles explaing the differences between PHH, DDH and DDHF type carbs.

I have looked on the web but had no success.

I have found some 40DDH cabs for sale but don't know how they would compare to 40DDHFs

Thanks

No-one has answered you which is surprising. If these carbs are the "narrow" type as fitted to Fulvias, then you are fortunate indeed. They are very rare. The works used something like them I think on the factory team 1300HFs.

1600s had mostly 42DDHFs and the VAR1016 cars had 45DDHFs, which were basically the 42s bored out 3mm.

I think the answer is that all Solex DDH have the same barrel spacing (which means they'll fit on a Fulvia manifold), but the last letter (i.e., "F") denotes different applications or features (different choke arrangements, &c.). IIRC, 40DDH were made for Alfas, so they may fit on a Fulvia, but they may not work well. As Paul says, there were only two sizes of DDH made for Fulvias, and both of them are designated DDHF for use on the 1.6 engine.
