Fulvia 3 / Monte Carlo ?

Can you tell a M.C from another Fulvia 3, by the chassisnumber alone? (61.647)

You cannot tell from the chassis number (unless you somehow obtain the factory records for individual chassis numbers). There is no special code; all Fulvia '3's are 818.630, whether standard or MC.

There are several physical features that should make an MC fairly easy to distinguish. But I read the original post as wanting to know if there's a way to confirm that it's genuine by the chassis number *alone*.

And AFAIK the answer to that is 'no'--you simply need to rely on the correctness of the special features, certainly the most prominent of which is the 1600HF body shell with flared arches.

Hi

Thank you for trying to help me out.
I am trying to identify a Fulvia. I have the chassis and motor type and numbers. It is definitly a "3"
I also have 10 "old fashioned" fotos of the car, none of them taken from the side.
What features would you look for?
(Having spent "some hours" on www, I am not clueless. But please, lets have your lists)

Henrik,

As Tim pointed out, the most obvious exterior features of a Monte Carlo are the flared wheel arches. The flares are the best indication of a Monte Carlo, as they're the most difficult feature to replicate. The arches flare at both front and rear, but the rears are the most pronounced. And that should show in any exterior photo from either the front quarter or the rear quarter--you don't need a full side view (in fact the flares are harder to spot in a full side view).

Other unique Monte Carlo features include a 3-spoke leather steering wheel and special Carello fog lamps. The steering wheel is easy to replace, so it's not 100% reliable as an indicator. But the fog lamps are very reliable; they're rectangular, with yellow lenses, and chromed housings with a very distinctive series of horizontal ribs. Many Monte Carlos have lost these special lamps, so a genuine Monte Carlo may not have them any longer. But these lamps were not used on any other car, so it is a very positive sign if the car has them.

Lastly, keep in mind that Fulvia '3' Monte Carlos were built in five different colors--all with black bonnet and boot lid--representing national racing colors: rosso corsa (Italy), blue (France), yellow (Belgium), green (UK), and orange (Holland).

Also to add .... HF seats/headrests and a distinctive "sebring" black wing mirror, and 1600HF rear number plate lights as there will be no bumpers....
