Re: found this tonight; fulvia Istoria
Ed, what box ? I can't find it !
anyway, as long as I am on the tube tonight ,I will be the 1st to tell you:
well read weekly Car-Magazine "Auto-Bild" has published their Special-Edition No. 2.2009 this week; listing "experts's values" of 6000+ collectible cars, in Cat. 1 - "Pristine" to Cat. 5 - "non-restor-horrible"...some undesirable Cat 2 cars are listed at values so low that only the junkman will collect them, if you pay him hard cash to do so. I have no idea how someone would get rid of the same car in Cat 4 or 5 condition !!!
Others cars re valued so high that the "value-specialists" must be living on a different planet than I do.
Fulvia are listed at values so high that only a well-to do collector would ever consider buying a Fulvia; perhaps having something to do with the fact that they have listed the Fulvia as "1 of the 100 Best Klassiker" on the Euro Market. Along with some "rather nice" cars (308 Ferrari) & some "fun cars" like the Renault R16 or R4.
If I was thinking of buying a Fulvia I would be shocked at these values; if I was selling a Fulvia I would be happy if the values were accurate.
Their final comment: Solid investment, impossible to source many parts; will not increase in value !

"Solid investment" and "will not increase in value" seem rather contradictory to me ! I hope they are not financial advisers as well !
I'm sure we all know that most parts are available (sometimes with a bit of a wait and at a cost) - but perversely I find that part of the attraction, and is more than compensated for by the ingenuity of the owners and the generous way they share that knowledge.
I suggest we keep this little secret to ourselves; after all it wouldn't do to let just anyone join would it

In the US, Sports Car Market magazine publishes an annual price guide, with their market assessments. For the Fulvia 1,6HF they lump S1 and S2 together, as though the market is the same for the two. Here is the collective brilliance of the past three years' guides for the 1.6HF:
2007: no change in value from previous year, investment grade of D, meaning "cars with potential but that failed to be successful in the collector market", and investment rating of **, meaning "somewhat overpriced today".
2008: +43% increase in value from 2007 (when it was "somewhat overpriced"!), still investment grade of D, and investment rating of ***, meaning "fully priced at current time; will increase or decrease with market".
2009: +25% increase in value from 2008 (when it would only follow the market); still investment grade of D (despite +69% increase over the previous two years), and investment rating of ****, meaning "will outperform the market" (not bad for such an unsuccessful collector car). But they've now figured out that there's a difference between S1 and S2, as the footnote says "for genuine early "Fanalone" cars, add 100%" to values quoted...
Translation: market prognosticators are utterly clueless when it comes to Fulvias.

Andreas,
In the US, such a car in good condition could bring from US$20k - US$30k. But I don't know how this helps you, as values are very different in the US than in Europe (and of course they're not uniform everywhere in Europe). In any case, rarity does not determine value by itself..

Thank´s Ed.
Want to have only the opinon of other Lancisti.
I have bought this car 6 month ago and i have had some doubts
that i have make it right.
Particular you can´t find anywhere indication for this special version of the
Fulvia Zagato.
I agree also that the value depents on the country.
In Japan they are totally crazy on Fulvia Zagato.
If i remember some years ( 10-15 years or so ) ago you can by
an Appia Zagato for the less than 20000 -25000 DM. Today in
good condition nothing to have under 40 000 up to 60 000 €.
Or look the Alfa SZ increase up to the sky. The same with Flaminia Zagato´s
regards

Andreas,
Good luck with the car. Just as values vary from country to country, they also vary from one Zagato-bodied car to another. Some Zagato cars have been increasing in value quickly, others much more slowly.

I think (less than) 2 years ago a similar car came up for sale here in Belgium. A1 condition! New engine, very clean interior, period alloys, 1 one word a real beauty. It was sold for 13500€. Asking price was 18000€ but if I remembered correct, it was to ship off youngsters and clueless time-waisters. If you were seriously interested, price dropped to 15K and than negotiating could start..... with a low 13.5K as result.
If it was pricetagged 13.5K it was sold within 1 [s]week[/s] [s]day[/s] [s]hour[/s] minute. But hey, you don't bargain if you aren't willing to buy (unless it's only 13.5K
)
But you can't have 'm all, so I'll get back to work to get mine on the road again. (wich I bought 7yrs ago for "so-so-coupé"-money) .
The Fulvia Sports are the cheapest of the Zagato-family. I think it will stay that way, but prices will rice steadily.
According to a well known (and respected) yearbook in (Holland-Belgium):
Prices for a F zagato in good condition drop from:
14000€ in 1995
to
7500€ in 1999 :S
There was no difference made between 1 - 1.5 and 2nd series.
1999 was the last year I bought that book.
Needless to say why.....
To get to the point: Lancias are worth a lot if it get's in the hands of a real connaisseur. For all the others who think Lancias are a sort of overrated Fiats, with a tendency to rust at warp speed, mechanics that fail more often than a Windows beta version, ...., Lancias aren't worth a lot...
I'm happy I we could keep 'the others' dumb! B)

Re: found this tonight; fulvia Istoria
The latest issue of the British classic car magazine, Octane, (issue 76, page 152) is saying the Touring bodied Flaminia is the next Lancia to look at in terms of appreciting values. With around 1,700 made and bodied by a name designer I think he's probably right. Much to our chagrin Fulvias will not be appreciating greatly unless you're looking at a Series 1 HF (1.2 or 1.6) or an aluminum bodied Sport. Otherwise they're too numerous or common.
Case in point, you will get someone to but a rusty hulk of a Porsche 356 but you don't see that with a Fulvia......yet. Encouragingly, a few years ago, a Porsche enthusiast came to see my car to purchase. He passed but it was interesting that he knew of the car and thought it would be a counterpoint to his Porsche collection. Then again for the price, around $10k I think, he might have thought it was a fairly inexpensive diversion.
Of course for that price he wanted an A1 car!

Re: drove this today; fulvia IstoriaB)
OK OK OK...enough Fulvia Talk ! I GOT THE MESSAGE (:P) Cheeeeech !!!
I parked my Old-Gold-Gamma where my Fire-Truck-Red-Fulvia normally lives & drove the Fulvia today...6.6km... to the office !
It took me some time (constructive office time) to figurine-out where I could go in a Fulvia on such a sumpcious warm sun-shiney day ! I remembered that I had a "minor-appointment" scheduled for "whenever"; so I
drove 40km to "whenever", feeling like (:D.
I knew where I was going; I knew how to get there; I arrived, feeling
, at an intersection I've been to many times before I couldn't not find the proper turn-off today. It must be the sun, I thought !I
I stopped at a "Tankstelle" to ask---"where do I go to get too "whenever?
Well, the nice lady in the gas-station took my 15 Euro . I didn't really need gas, but I didn't want to look too dumb, so i got some gas anyway, She laughed & said "haha, you are the 399+ person this weekend to ask "where is "whenever", regardless of what "whenever" they are looking for.
There is now an entrance to an underpass that you just drove past, thinking it was still a construction-site. The city has not put up the new signs yet ! You are 100m from "whenever"; but you can't go the old way anymore. I hope they never put up the signs; everyone who asks for directions tanks, even if for only a few Euro, since no one wants to "appear stupid" & now gas sales are way up
.
I drove back from whence I just come, went under the underpass & was "unlost". The appointment was fine.
I headed back toward the underpass; only to find that it isn't yet opened in the opposite direction,,,so I drove the normal "known" way.
JIT to get stuck in mid of a Alfa GTV & Lotus Elise convoy, with a police escort. No one was speeding, no one passed the lead police car. I got a few honks & a few waves & was happy that I didn't have to race anyone.
Tomorrow....I.... will...drive...the....Fulvia; in fact I will drive it as long as the sun is still shining & be
