Solex 40/45 DDH

OK so Solex 42s were std on 1600s. Would a pair of Solex 40s /45DDHs work on same manifold or would one need Weber style adaptor?

45's should as they are modified 42's - but by all accounts pretty rubbish.

Do you mean the ADDHE Solex?

I have just worked on a Fulvia fitted with these (see my blog). They are the same as Weber DCOEs or Dell'Orto DHLAs and therefore require a manifold or adaptor.

Hi, in answer to your question, if you have a pair of Solex DDHF 40 carbs as fitted to some Fulvia 1300 HF cars, or a pair of Solex DDHF 45 as fitted to the variant 1016 Fulvia 1600 HF, both of these will fit the standard 1600 Fulvia manifold. However the 40s are smaller than the standard carbs and I gather that the 45s weren't much good (as Neil says in his comments) apparently being a bored out version of the DDHF 42. Please note that all these carbs have a 60mm choke spacing. In addition the Lancia works fitted a range of carbs to the Fulvia, Solex 32 and 35PHH (in various versions) as well as Weber DOL carbs of 32, 34 and 35 mm bore size, all still with 60mm bore spacing. Dellorto made aftermarket carbs fitted to both 1300 and 1600 cars, this was the 35DHLB and gave better fuel mixing and offered almost the same performance as the Solex 42 DDHF on the 1600, whilst offering marginally better fuel consumption and performance than the 35 PHH on the 1300. Still with the 60mm choke spacing for a moment, I think there were several other cabs also made with this spacing, the Weber 32 DCOF (fitted to some Fiats) and the Dellorto 32 DHLB.

The more common Solex carbs 40 ADDH type (there was also a 45mm unit made) were fitted to some Alfa Romeos and have the same bore spacing of 90mm as the Weber DCOE and Dellorto DHLA carbs which range in size from the Weber 38 DCOE to the 55DCO, and the dellorto 40 DHLA throught to the 48 DHLA. ALL these carbs need a different manifold when fitted to the Fulvia, to allow for the bigger choke spacing of these carbs, and the variety of design is quite big as Paul stated in his comments.

What ever route you take good luck, and if you have either Solex 40 DDHF or 45 DDHF carbs I suggest you sell them as they are quite rare, even if not awfully desireable from a performance standpoint, because the Weber DCOEs and Dellortos DHLAs are better, they are still very desireable for anyone racing a Fulvia, who wants the best option homologated for their class/year.
