Apologies for the delay in responding. When I owned my workshop, we struck the flat spot problem on a number of occasions. Sometimes it was the accelerator diaphragms but on other occasions it was the float levels. I was able to make a copy of a genuine Lancia factory float gauge and used it for many years to fix this type of problem.

Hi Tony

Your gauge sorted out some of my flat spot but real difference was when I changed cams and found what must have been out on the standard ones as when I timed some holbay tuning var 1016 copies the car has no flat spot, ticks over at c700rpm and carries 15 degrees of advance without pinking!

BTW I used the guage on a friends solex's which had not been serviced before and the guage was spot on!

Tim

If any one wants Tony's drawings please email and I will send them.

i would love to have that drawing if you don't mind. i just serviced the solex 35s on my 1,3 and noticed the new needle and seats are slightly different from the original. this of course means the float level must be off. i haven't noticed any flat spots but it would be good to verify the level.
also i made a manometer style balancer to set the balance screws, works pretty good. anyone else try this before?
