Hi there,

I am currently looking for some nice alloy rims for my Fulvia 3. Does anyone know if the Fiat Spider Volumex ones might fit? I think they would look really great on a Fulvia. Any other suggestions for 15" rims?

Sad to say, the Fiat rims will not fit ... they are 4x98 bolt pattern, as opposed to the 4x130 pattern used by the Fulvia.

More seriously, for your find, you will be please knowing that
the fulvia enter axle for fitting the wheels is the same than the
Vw Cox ! A lot of wheels were available . I saw recently a set
on the french e-bay .
If you search 15' wheels ( I think fulvia were only fitted with 13 or 14'),
Flavia wheels are also adaptable and where produced with 14' or 15' .

I've been thinking about this too as I want to put alloy wheels on my Fulvia when I've finished restoring it. Apart from the extra width and maybe interfering with the guards, why couldn't you fit a spacer that bolts into the existing holes, but has 4x98 PCD holes drilled and tapped into it, and has the correct diameter shoulder in the centre for newer wheels to centre on. I think the Beta 8 spoke wheels as fitted to my VX coupe would look really good on the Fulvia.

I was at the Maserati GranSport launch in Italy a couple of years ago, at Andrea de Adamich's circuit, and I saw there a beautifully restored Fulvia coupé which had been updated in all sorts of subtle ways, outside and in. Among the updates were 15in wheels from, believe it or not, a Citroen Xsara Picasso. I don't know if they were a straightforward fit but they did look good on this modernised car. Auto Italia magazine ran a feature on this Fulvia but sadly I don't have the copy any more. Come to think of it, maybe it was this Fulvia that tipped me over the edge of the potential Fulvia-owning precipice on which I had been teetering for a while. My HF is happy on its Cromodoras, though.

That 'restored' Fulvia that John mentions is actually a totally modified rebuild, including stretching the wheelbase and altering the bodywork in all sorts of ways. In other words, there was very little about the car that was straightforward.

You need to make sure that you check wheel and tire clearances carefully. Some people make the mistake of trying to fit 6 x 13 Cromodoras from the Series 1 HF on Series 2 cars; they have brake clearance issues. The Cromodoras on John's S2 1600HF are 6 x 14, but S2 1600HFs and S2/S3 Fulvia Montecarlos have flared fenders that the standard coupes don't have. You may have clearance issues trying to fit 6 x 14 on a standard coupe.

In any case, Fulvia coupes don't need wide wheels and tires to handle well. Frankly, you may be better off spending your money on good tires. Michelin has re-issued the XAS in 165 R14, which was the standard size for most S2/S3 coupes. They're expensive, but they're no more expensive than buying alloy wheels with wider tires, and they'll make the car handle brilliantly.
