rust proofing
rust proofing
Well what with the UKs salty roads and wetter winters forecast with global warming I'm thinking of the best way to protect the wee Fulvia from the elements. Any advice on the best way to inject waxoyl/dinitrol into cavities. Do any of you use undersealant? Car is mainly for circuit and some road use so don't want to put on excessive layers of weight!
Re: rust proofing
Drill 10mm holes in all box sections (from the inside). Spray in dinatrol using an airgun and the special applicator nozzels, plug holes with 10mm plastic plugs (all from www.rust.co.uk). Don't forget the box sections in the engine bay. Then go round all the seams, insides of doors, the inner lip of the roof seam and the rear subframe mounts. Also ensure the drain holes are clear in the sills. I have underseal as well but is for road use so "you pays your money and takes your choice !".
This took me about 1/2 a day to complete and should keep thinks tidy for a bit !

Many thanks Neil
Alas don't have access to a proper 7cfm compressor at the moment so will have to make do with manual pump action waxoyl and tubes. Understand that some mix dinitrol with clear waxoyl and white spirit to spray under high pressure into box sections.
Are Dinitrol products available anywhere other than from www.rust.co.uk? Did they supply a recommended treatment chart for the Fulvia?
For the underside - anyone tried Rust Bullet/ epoxy mastic/ POR15 paint?

Re: rust proofing
Don't know about the first point - the Dinatrol I had (straight from the bottle) was liquid enough to spray. I imagine you can get it from any motor factor - but I haven't tried (or e-bay). As far as I know they do not have a treatment chart for a Fulvia, I never asked. We have a fulvia stripped to the bare structure (no outer panels) so I used that as a reference.
Last point - no experience of that I'm afraid.
