When inspecting a 1.3 HF offered to me, I found it somehow difficult to identify the lateral windows as plexiglass. The windows I had checked rather felt like "ordinary" glass. Is the haptics of HF plexiglass windows unique enough so one would be able to tell immediately? Can the engraving serve as an indicator? The engravings of the windows I just inspected were "Securit" on the rear window and lateral triangulars, "Saint Gobain" on the left and "Sicursiv" on the right door. The door windows had definitely been replaced whenever.
Thanks

1.3 HF Lateral Windows
Re: 1.3 HF Lateral Windows
It must be very simple to identify plexiglass as plexiglass. First it bends and it has a plasticky sound when tapped with f.e a ring. HF's of the first series had quarterlights in plexyglass and the rear glass. The side windows which roll down were only plexiglass in compertition. Not as a street option. Simply because coupes have frameless doors the seal from the plexiglas to the rubber is very poor, resulting in the top of the window being sucked outwards at speed! This is very noisy as you can imagine. The solution Zagato used with the Alfa Romeo SZ and other models in the late 50's early 60's is to fit a very slim piece of aluminium trim around the plexiglass to give it more strenght.
Re: 1.3 HF Lateral Windows
to my knowledge no stamps or logos are visible in plexiglass windos. So if you read 'securit' it must be glass.
Re: 1.3 HF Lateral Windows
Thanks William.
as you wrote, the large roll down windows of the 65-66 HF street version were ordinary glass, not plexi. Does this go for the 1.3 HF as well, so ordinary glass windows should be fine on a 1.3 HF?
Thanks
J.

Re: 1.3 HF Lateral Windows
ordinary glass goes even more for the 1300 HF as for the 1200HF which was even more a homologation special as even de gauge of the steel is thinner in places compared to the normal coupe bodies. To my knowledge no street HF's have been sold with plexi wind down windows
Re: 1.3 HF Lateral Windows
My understanding is that the 1300HF had a plexiglass back window, with the remainder being as standard.
