no forward gears

Unread post by Mike »

Folks,

I took my Series 1 Fulvia coupe out for a drive yesterday and all was well - until I returned home and parked the car to open the garage door. When I got back in the car I found I could not select any forward gears, only reverse.

The gear lever will not travel across the gate, only to neutral directly up from reverse gear. I had no warning signs of this during my drive.

Any clues as to the cause and remedy?
(Gear shifts aways had a "snick/grind" noise in 1-2, 2-3, which I assumed was worn synchros, but double-declutching helped this).

Parts:
Looking for various interior and dash parts for Series 1 right hand drive. Also some body trim pieces. Email me for details if you have parts to sell please.

Is it possible to re-chrome the outer door handles and windscreen wiper cowl pieces which sit on the body?

Thanks for any help you can give me on the above.

Rather tricky this one.

Synchromesh problems are common on SI gearboxes and your having to double de-clutch is normal.

My instinct would be to examine the external selection linkage. Unfortunately this is virtually impossible to do with the 'box in the car. I have not come across a Fulvia with this problem.
