this is NOT the end!!!!
this is NOT the end!!!!
I have spoken to Lancia and Fiat who laughed when i asked them is the Lancia brand was to be dropped or turned into a spec level like Wosley or vanden plas was by BL!
Re: this is NOT the end!!!!
Oh and people take the time to investigate things b4 jumping the gum there are planned replaicements for the Lybra! I have documents and pictures to prove this!
Re: this is NOT the end!!!!
Hi David!
I wish you are right, can you verify the plans of a lybra substitute or other planned models? All the info i have are from interviews with the Lancia CEO

Re: this is NOT the end!!!!
It seems to me that Lancia are responding to the people who buy their cars - makes complete sense. The Y10 was a huge success and the subsequent Ypsilon continued the trend. The trend is that current Lancias mostly appeal to a younger market and that can only be a good thing for the continuation of the marque. The mid-range Lancias seem to have lost their appeal to Lancisti - I don't know why, I would dearly love a Lybra SW (with the steering wheel on the right). The Thesis certainly appeals to Lancisti who can afford one but they sell in low numbers. Basically any "brand" survives on sales - if you want an Aurelia in 2010 buy an Ypsilon or Musa today. No doubt many people sent messages to Lancia saying they would buy a Fulvia 4 but how many were serious and had previously purchased new Lancias?? If Lancia disappears then many people who call themselves Lancisti will be to blame. Having said that it seems true that Lancia threw away the new wave of customers that were attracted by the integrales by not having a follow up car. Those new customers may not have been traditional Lancia purchasers but they were certainly hooked in to the Delta, moving onwards through the various editions/evolutions.

Re: this is NOT the end!!!!
Can you please give us some spesifics on what kind of information you have?
Re: this is NOT the end!!!!
Today you can read the statements from Lancia on www.italiaspeed.com. They have confirmed thjat there will be no new Fulvia and the replacement for Lybra is canned because Fiat is afraid that a new car in this segment will cause problems for other Fiat products in the segment. Unfortunatly the information David Bouttell is incorrect.
I am so sad right now. My next car might be a Audi or something.

Re: this is NOT the end-eh it could be!
oh i don't know, Fiat don't seem very interested in Lancia at the moment, what with no replacement for the Lybra, and now the decision not to build the Fulvia!? Thankfully the new Y seems to be selling well, so it might just save Lancia.
Re: this is NOT the end-eh it could be!
and the new Musa is like what BMC had done with a Mini and turned it into a Riley Hornet...
where is Riley today?
this is 'badge' engineering from the good old days;
the Idea looks better and is cheaper, so if you can live without Navigation or leather or silly flimsy arm-rests stick with Fiat; Lancia has illusions that potential Mercedes A-Class buyers might look at the Musa instead but ita hard to hide tha fact that the Musa is an Idea in drag...
I am on my third Lancia (Prisma, Thema Turbo SW, Lybra SW) so no one can claim that I am not buying their products but if in future all I will have to choose from is between a Musa and a Thesis, then sadly, bye bye Lancia and Fiat Auto for me; Alfas never 'spoke' to me and Fiats don't offer anything for me either - except as a second car ...which currently is a Punto...and will never be an Y (too tight);
What I want is a Lybra with more power and torque than my 2.0 petrol. A 175bhp 2.4jtd might do the trick but it sems this engine is reserved for Thesis and Alfa while a 2.4 litre petrol with 175hp is reserved for Fiat. Go figure!
Lancia ought to pretend that their base is in Japan and not go on thinking that they may harm Fiat/Alfa sales by producing decent Lancias - Germans, Japanese, Koreans, Americans... anyone would buy anything provided the product was special and good; there is the emotional side of Lancisti who might not consider an Alfa or Alfisti who ignore Fiat but overall cars are individually chosen on their merits; Prople don't go shopping stating that the criterion is country of Origin e.g. I wish to buy Italian - what is there to buy? Oh, yes, Fiat cute and spunky, Alfa nice and sporty, and Lancia - what do they produce? Fiats in drag...this is how Fiat Auto seems to be rationalsing it all...No, most buyers have a vision of what type of car they want and then compare with what is out there regardless of origin. They look for style, type of car, reliability, longevity...
Enough for today...

Re: this is NOT the end-eh it could be!
How is the "badge engineering" for the Lancia Musa any different than that of the Lancia Lybra (Alfa 156) and Lancia Thema (Alfa 164/Fiat Croma/Saab 9000) that you have owned?
One can argue your past Lancia Thema was nothing more than a Saab 9000 in drag, but I still think the Thema was a very nice Lancia.
With the condition of Lancia today, I don't see much that can be done at this point but to try to build the brand back based on FIAT models, just like all Lexus are based off Toyota models. If they throw in a few niche models like a Fulvia and Stratos, they would have a good chance...
