steering rods and ball-joints

Unread post by georges »

This very hot sunday could have been nice to ride a Fulvia; but I have some trouble with my steering system and especially with the 4 inner ball-joints (the 2 outside-near the wheels-, have been changed for new); There is a lond rod connecting the left and right mechanisms, and at each end there is a ball-joint which does not seem to be screwed but rather "squeezed"
1) How can I extract these balls ? or is it possible to buy a new rod equipped with the balls ?
2) Under each part of mechanism, there is a stong bolt (34mm) : is it serious to undo this, so that I could disconnect the 3 rods all together and work easily to change the balls ?
Thank you for any experience or advice; please answer in very simple words, that I will easily find in my English-French dictionnary....

Do not undo the big nut which fasten the Pitman arms (I assume you mean this nut when you talk about a 34mm nut).

For the central tracking rod you buy a complete new one complete with balls.

If you use a ball joint seperator, the conical part of the balls can be extracted quite easily from the arms.
