Fulvia Funny behavior

Unread post by christos skriapas »

Hi lancisti
I don't know how to describe the behavior of my early restored Fulvia. The car runs well but evey time I'm trying to accelerate (any gear) it's moved back and frond and it's very annoying when it's doing that. so I'm talking for a 1.3 II serie but with prepared engine. My mechanic told me that propably is the main engine mount. I replace all the rubber mounts but the problem still exist. I was thinking about the small metal mount at the right side of the engine. That leg is adjustable but I've here nothing about the proper adjust.
Any note will be helpfull. I check all the fuel and electrics parts and seems to work ok
Thanks in advance.

A possible cause may that the outer cable of the throttle cable is just too short. When accelerating the engine rotates a bit and thus influences the throttle if the cable is too short.

The little engine steady on the right should be adjusted so that it just touches the sub frame; it should not be tight against it.

Next check the central gearbox mount (the big circular rubber at the back of the engine above the gearbox). This may be fine, but it is quite common for what we call "The Eiffel Tower" (bracket underneath) to crack - sometimes in a way that is difficult to see.

Cross and longditudinal members can also crack and cause all sorts of trouble; I seam-welded all mne years ago!

There should of course be a rubber bush beneath the threaded stabilising arm to reduce vibration. As Paul says this should be adjusted so that it is just touching the subframe.

Also, how about the outrigger mountings at the rear of the front subframe - have you checked them where they join to the front of the sills?

Thanks Huib
I'll check this one as well. I'm planing to send the solexes to Omicron for refubiching but later because now I'm out of money. Until that my mechanic suggest me to replace the needles from 180 to 200. He said that the problem is the rich mixture of fuel. Any way I'll try all this weekend.
Thanks again
