Fuse ratings

The fuses in the car I look after are almost all 16Amp. Surely this can't be right? I suspect that over the years, people have put in fuses of higher rating here and there. Anyone know the correct sequence?

I have just looked in my 1973 Series 2 Handbook which is in Italian, it states out of the nine fuses in the fuse box, there are eight 16A fuses in yellow and one 30A in red, I would think that a Series 3 would be the same. I also referred to Huib's excellent Fulvia CDs, looked at the English version of the handbook and refers to the 16A fuses as being 15A fuses, so of a similar value, assuming you can get 15A fuses. I am not sure which fuse holder takes the 30A fuse. I hope that helps.
