what numbers match in a Fulvia Sport Zagato

Unread post by Jorn van Beckhoven »

i have recently looked at a 1st series Fulvia Zagato, the car is supposed to be a 1,3 S which does correspond with the body nr which starts of with 818 362 the number on the gearbox however states 818 332 which to my knowledge should indicate a Sport 1,3 modell.

To complicate things more the nr on the gearbox is (ok this is as far as i could read; it was rather dirty down there and couldnt see 100%) 818 332 002812 while the books i have suggest the 818 332 XXX - 1,3 models only went up to 002804 so there shouldnt even be a 002812 gearbox.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me, i have checked the following books:

Fulvia, Flavia, Flaminia
Fulvia HF e tutte le altre versione
Fulvia Sport Competizione

thank you,

i have noticed that the numbers on gearboxes and engines never tally, I would presume that they also made the odd one or two for spares and presumably they were numbered also, rhd boxes are often slightly different and so have a different # sequence just to complicate matters further. i would suggest hours of study of the parts books might yield more info.(??) .......aren't we all just a little crazy? as regards production numbers it is a well known fact that Italians cannot count especially well, my 2000hf has a chassis # of 2307 when the last one built is claimed to be 2229, i know that there were several other such cars in the UK and indeed the #'s go to about 2330 as i recall. interestingly Lancia say they stopped making 2000coupés in 1973 but i wrote to pininfarina several years ago and they told me that the last bodies were made in march 1974
