1800 Coupe questions
Re: 1800 Coupe questions
The center hole for VW Bug is really smaller... the wheel must be machined and drilled to fit...
I have articles of Flavias fitted with two Weber IDF 36 (40) and Solex PII 40... bored to allmost 2000ccm... lightened flywheels, sharp cams and roll cage... nice !
Do you know of anyone who did the conversion on his own ? I am wandering what he did with the fan and with the water pump inside inlet manifold...?
Any pictures of THE conversion ?
If anyone is interested I can scan articles about sharp Flavia Coupes and share it with you out there...
Thanks for replys !

Re: 1800 Coupe questions
I am certain that the Jolly Club car was fitted with 40mm Webers.
I have no recollection of the fan or water-pump. If I were doing one I would simply fit an electric pump since Flavia pumps are almost impossible to find. Similarly I would use a more modern electric fan AND an aluminium radiator.
As I said, we worked on this car about 14 years ago. I have no photographs or records, nor do I know what became of the car. The body had gone to a coachbuilder and we had the mechanical parts. All the parts we had were taken by the leasing company that had financed the car, after the owner went bust. This company subsequently went bust (this would have been about 1993).

Re: 1800 Coupe questions - Exhaust System Replacement.
Regarding replacement exhaust for the Flavia. I replaced my Milleotto exhaust with one fabricated up by a local exhaust specialist. I found it to sound very 'tinny' and I think that was because the pipe used was not heavy enough gauge. Unfortunately, it became quite annoying and I was considering replacing the system altogether. Also, you need to retain the cross-pipe which, as I recall, was just before the final 'Y'- junction; apparently this has something to do with gas flow in the system. I have noticed similar cross pipes on some motor bike exhaust systems. I didn't try stainless steel; apparently this stuff really 'rings'.
The new system was made by using the original as the basis of a jig-fitting so that all the flanges were in the correct position. The difficulty lies in the fact that the individual pipes quickly sweep away from the flange so that ground clearance is optimised. Makes for tricky welding!
Good luck and happy motoring.

Re: 1800 Coupe questions - Exhaust System Replacement.
the problems with most stainless exhausts are down to cost cutting by the fabricators, because stainless steel is relatively expensive but doesn't rust (well actually it does but only very slowly) they use reduced thickness of steel in key areas particularly silencers. This results in unpleasant resonance and this usually gets worse as the internal packing deteriorates (again due to cost cutting). If you buy a really well made stainless exhaust it will probably be highly satisfactory but it will appear expensive compared with some available. quality lasts long after the price is forgotten
Re: 1800 Coupe questions
Paul,
I have 2 x flavia Sport (Zagato).
If you would like information, please send me an email and I will be happy to send.
Best regards Peter
p.s. I have many steel 1800 wheels, if anybody needs some. Not expensive at all.
Best Regards Peter
