Flaminia shock absorbers

Unread post by Jean de Barsy »

I replaced the rear shocks with new original ones, but I wonder if a modern item from Bilstein or Koni or whatever would fit or could be adapted to fit. What needs to be looked for (Max. Length - Min. Length - Weight of tha car...?) I think this could improve a lot the handling of our Flaminia's as original ones are very scarce now and tye special made Koni's for Flaminia are hugely expensive.

Jean,

I read in a German magazine an article about restoring a Lancia Flaminia coupe.
In that article was as subscription from a Silver-gray Lancia Flaminia coupe that is own by the secretary of the Lancia Club Deutschland Mr. Hubert Enbergs.
They wrote (and I quote ) “ After proofing the shock absorbers at the Koni factory they mounted at the front absorbers as equipped on Toyota and on the rear of the car as equipped on Jaguar".
So I don’t think there are special made Koni`s for the flaminia anymore, but you could contact Mr. Hubert Engbergs or Koni and ask to inform you about the type’s that ware mount.
If you know on what cars the ware mount and which type they are you could look for an other brand if the koni`s are to expensive.
The E-mailadres of Mr Engbers is LanciaClubDeutschland@gmx.de

Greetings and good luck,

We have had Flaminia dampers made for us by Koni.

These are not Jaguar ones, or ones that happen to fit, but proper dampers designed specifically for the Flaminia.

Andrew,
I am Surprised that you can supply some Koni parts that Koni cannot supply.
Perhaps you have bought an old stock of that absorbers?
In their actual range witch you can see on http://www.koni.com/_cars/_special/afram.html they don’t have dampers for Flaminia anymore.
I have visit the Koni factory in Oud Beierland last year and I have seen the production process.
This process has been designed to make the absorbers range build with standard Koni parts.
The are trying to standardize their range more and more.
The typical type’s are made by the way the are mounted, the way they are absorbing (gas or oil), the suspension, the length of the absorber and the weight off the car.
I also visit the engineering part of the factory where they design for special products.
To engineer and/or build these parts is very expensive, does not fit in the production process and they do that occasionally.

We commission Koni to build Flaminia shock absorbers for us. We have them made 50 pairs at a time.
