appia wheel bearings

Unread post by brian marler »

i'm finishing up a brake overhaul on my appia vignale and i'm going to repack the wheel bearings. my appia manual barely even mentions the fact that the car has bearings, let alone how to get them out for servicing. i see that i need to make a spanner to remove the ring nuts, and this seems the likely place to start. any tips or warnings will be happily read before i start. i'm not sure of the availability of replacement parts and i don't want to ruin anything.
thanks in advance,
brian

Hello,

Assuming you are talking about the rear wheel bearings, you have to remove the castle nut to free the inner cage of the outer bearing. Then, fit back the central nut and use it with an inertia tool to pull out the shaft and the inner bearing.
Both bearings are standard ones I found in the nearest specialised shop and there is no major damage risk when removing them.

Hope this will help

thanks, but i actually meant the front ones. i am not sure how to remove the bearings. do they both come out from the back, or do they come out from opposite sides? i'm not sure how to get a puller on them, or if i need to use a press.
regards,
brian
