Cylinder pressure - 2.0 20v 155 BHP
Cylinder pressure - 2.0 20v 155 BHP
Hi,
Anyone has the figures handy for the "normal" cylinder pressures? I did a compression test on my Kappa today and the mechanic said that all five cylinders show figures around 10 BAR. He said "it's not the best, but it's nothing to worry about, given the engine's age". Now, I'm wondering which are "the best" for a 1997 2.0 20v, so any ideas are welcome.
Thanks,
Adrian

"The best" is 13 BAR, but don't worry 10 Bar is not the END!
Re: Cylinder pressure - 2.0 20v 155 BHP
Just did a 350 km trip today, mostly highway (CZ and SK) and some B-roads in Austria. The Kappa had no problems maintaining a steady 140-150 km/h (sshhhh, speed limit is 130 km/h)
and pulled reasonably quickly to 180 once (for testing purposes only). So far, so good, even if I nearly doubled its buying value with the repairs done in the meanwhile. After exactly one year of ownership, I can only say I love it.

13 Bar ????
By Repair Manual : 10 +/- 0,15 Bar !

Hm, now this is good news. It means my engine is either in a perfect or a good state.
I'm a bit more relaxed now.
Btw (the only repair manual I found was in German and I don't master that language): is it recommended to do a "preventive" head gasket change? The engine just passed 183.000 km and the mechanic changed the valve cover gasket.

Re: Cylinder pressure - 2.0 20v 155 BHP
The compression ratio is 10 (but it is not BAR).
Re: Cylinder pressure - 2.0 20v 155 BHP
I think, that this "preventive" head gasket change is not necessary.

From the internet:
"Low engine compression can be caused by the following conditions:
BLOWN HEAD GASKET (head gasket ruptured).
PHYSICAL ENGINE DAMAGE (hole in piston, broken valve, etc.).
BURNED VALVED SEAT (cylinder head seat damaged by combustion).
BURNED VALVE (valve face damaged by combustion heat).
WORN RINGS OR CYLINDERS (part wear that prevents a ring-to-cylinder seal).
VALVE TRAIN TROUBLES (valve adjusted with insufficient clearance. This keeps the valve from fully closing. Also, broken valve spring, seal, or retainer).
JUMPED TIMING CHAIN OR BELT (loose or worn chain or belt has jumped over teeth, upsetting valve timing)."
