Kappa headlamps
Kappa headlamps
I am looking to bring in a Kappa SW to the UK. Biggest problem is getting it registered with the LHD lamps on it. Stickies dont do the job apparently. Anyone got any suggestions?
Re: Kappa headlamps
Lindsay,
2 ways around this, Alan Cooper with his Delta HPE HF put beam bender inside the head lamps, i understand that this was a tricky job which involved cutting a slot in the underside of the body and then sliding the beam bender in.
Or do nothing and see what happens at the MOT station, on my Delta HPE i have done nothing and have never had any trouble. I have adjusted on the headlights on the leveling system to dip by 2 out of 3 positions and in over 6 years i have had only about 1 person flash me.

Re: Kappa headlamps
Thanks Simon. An interesting solution by Alan....i understand that the Kappa does not have to go through an SVA as it is coming from Germany - this according to the chap at VCA in Bristol - just need to send them receipts for work to the lights, speedo etc.... we shall see!Simon wrote:

Re: Kappa headlamps
I don't know if anything has changed but back in 1999 when I brought my Delta HPE, which was brand new and unregistered, the dvla local office weren't the slightest bit interested in all this speedo and headlight stuff if it had a certificate of conformity they were happy, you need to phone fiat in the UK and, assuming he's still there, speak to Tim Speechley who deals with certification issues as he will probably be able to clarify the issue. The reason I modified my lights was primarily to give a decent spread of light at night in the right direction plus to pass the MOT which it does (just), Kappa lights look very similar to delta ones so the same trick might work however I don't necessarily recommend it as it is tricky and not especially elegant. I understand that most MOT testers will accept black tape on the outside of the lights although I think that under SVA any modifications must be permanent and durable. I never did anything about the speedo and soon got the hang of the mental 'conversion' to UK speed limits.
Re: Kappa headlamps
by the way ,all being well, I'll be at the LMC AGM with the delta if you want a close look at my headlights!
