Handling and brakes

Unread post by Julian H. Tice »

This forum seems to be a bit empty so I thought I would post some recent reflections on the car to stimulate discussion.

Having just spent the weekend on the Lancia meet in Portugal organized by Lancia Club Vincenzo it gave me some oportunity to feel the handling of the car outside the normal daily grind to work and back. It is well documented that the steering on the Kappa is over assisted and lacking in feel - probably purposefully a bit this way in its primary role as executive transport. At speed it does tighten up a bit but hanging the car through windy lanes can be a bit disconcerting as you don´t have the feedback of when it is all going to fall apart. Anyone have any track experience (potentially pretty scary!) or other opinion on the subject?

Not heard much discussion about the brakes on the Kappa, so I would like to gauge some other opinions. My car is a series 1 and I know from the parts tables that they increased the front disc size on the series 2. Whilst my car doesn´t have bad braking, it does feel that it could do with a bit more urgency (could be in need of some fresh fluid and general maintainence, but pads are new) I know that there are available some off the shelf upgrades from companies such as Movit - anyone have any experience of this.....?
