Kappa Coupe

I am looking for specs on Kappa Coupe as i consider to buy one as main family car. How large is the capasity of the trunk? How good is the legspace in the backseat (i 've got 2 big boys)?. Is the 2.0 Turbo engine reliable with all that power? What equipment is a "must"?

Hi Svein,

I've had a Kappa Coupe since last year and it's definitely the best car I've ever had. The boot space is excellent, and there is a lot of rear legroom. I'll try to take a photo in the next few days so you can see.

Equipment - most of them are fully loaded anyway. Personally I wouldn't go for alcantara seats, and the other thing is that the series 2 model had a lot of small modifications, and is meant to be far better. It is easy to tell the difference as it was introduced in 1998 with the 20v engine.

Options (as far as I can remember) are reversing sensors (if you really need them...) and xenon headlamps. Oh, and a sunroof.

Standard - 6 speaker stereo with autochanger and satnav, electric seats, mirrors, windows, 4 airbags, climate control, immobiliser...

As far as the engine is concerned, seems to be fine. I think the 4 cylinder is pretty good as well, but the later car's a much better bet.

I don't know if you're interested, but mine is actually for sale as I have to buy a house very soon and need the money.

Anyway, good luck, and let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your excellent information!

Do you know exactly the size of the boot in liters / dm3?
I'm concidering the 2.0 Turbo because i think the import-tax to Norway will be to high with the 2.4/3.0. Do you know the net-weight on the different models?

I would like to have some more info on your car; engine, first time registration, options, color etc... What are expecting to get paid for it? Is the car left hand drive?

Kappa 3.0 LX

Unread post by mayumi »

Hi, everyone,
‚l‚™ husband ‚‰‚“ clazy about Italian cars.So is my son.
Our main family car is Kappa 3.0LX now since Thema ie 16V seemd to be very tired.Thema has been a really nice car for six years. My son bought a yellow barchetta last year.

When we were looking for next one,the dealer said, there were only 20 Kappa in Japan at that time.He also said,a famous actor of Japan, who is very attractive, has a same type.So I agreed to buy it at once.

Unfortunately, Kappa had a something bad, it happened on the highway. It seemed to be a kind of overheating. We and the dealer have no idea about it.Three weeks has past away.we've never heard any good news. My husband predicted that it would be a big trouble.

Can anyone please give us advice about that?
Thank you in advanse.

Mayumi.

Check the radiator hose. This might have some rust in it. Since this is a usual problem with lancia.
Refreshing cool water would be an advice as well.

Further more does anybody know a good Lancia Tuner?
I am looking for an optical tuner for my Kappa.

Greets.

Hello Mayumi,

I had a also a cooling problem with my Thema V6. Maybe, some Kappas have similar problems: The thermal switch for radiator fan was connected wrong to the ground. Since the radiator fan is also controled by air condition, the problem occured only when the a/c was off. After repairing the ground connection of the thermal switch, the problem was gone.

If the radiator fan and its thermal switch are o.k., you should adjust the heating to the highest level and the heating fan to maximum speed. If the temperature falls, you could have thermostat problem: Most cars have a thermostat, which controls the cooling circuit. If this thermostat ist defective, it does not extend the cooling circuit to the cooler (only engine and heating are in the "small" cooling circuit).

I have also heard that thermic problems can also occur if the cylinder head gasket
is damaged. In this case the water and oil temperature increases too much especially on higher load of the engine (i.e. while fast driving). But I have not heard of frequent cylinder head problems of the Euro-V6 (like used in Kappa 3.0, but also used by most other italian and french car manufacturers). If the color of the oil looks a little bit like "milky coffee", you have a certain problem with the cylinder head gasket. You should also habe a look to the cooling water, if there is some oil in it, it also indicates a problem with the cylinder head gasket.

Of course, it also can be that your radiator or some other parts inside the cooling circuit are blocked by some dirt. You can buy some special cleaning agents to clean the cooling circuit. Anyway, it is recommended to renew the coolant all 2 or 3 years (always use enough antifreeze or other corrosion protection agents when renewing or filling up the coolant) .

Hope this helps.

Hello Reflex and Daniel,

I want to express my appreciation to the kind advice.
Unfortunately our Kappa has been in the dealerfs garage again.
It was back home once 13.Oct, since everything seemed to be good.
One of service engineer investigated by commuting with Kappa for a few days,
but he couldft find out the cause at all.
So we were‚leased to drive again and went to the country side 18.Oct.
After four hours driving in a highway, we saw the steam was rising from bonnet.
My husband checked the water temperature immeadiately, but it was not as high as burnout. So he poured 4 liters mineral water into the radiator on the highway.
He said the most immportant thing was the radiator fan was still moving smoothly.
Then we had to drive causiously.

He took a occation to discuss to another engineer by phone today. He reported the water escaped from the joint of the radiator. Maybe there is a crack in it.He also said he has no idea whether it could be repaired. And there is no spare radiator in Japan right now.
Thatfs all.We feel a little bit gloomy about it.
Now we are offerd Toyota Mark‡Uinstead by the dealer.

There are used 2,0 Turbo cars in germany for sale which got a new engine after only 30000 km or so.
Does this mean the engine makes problems in general ?
Only in the kappa coupe or in the Fiat coupe too - I think
the same engine / type is fitted in the Fiat ??
