Fulvia 1.3 Engine Head Gasket Installation

Unread post by dvillijg »

Hi Everyone,

I'm requesting some guidance with regards to installing a new head gasket on a 1.3 Fulvia.

The new head gasket is a Spesso 20607/5812. Both the head and block surfaces have been skimmed.

The Fulvia workshop manual states the new gasket "should be moistened with oil and then placed on the engine block". My questions are as follows:

- Is it still necessary with the new / modern gaskets to moisten the gasket with oil before installing?
- If the new gasket do require oil before installation, does it need to be oiled only on the block facing side or on the head side also?

Any advice appreciated.

Good question, Jacques.

I have never used it on the modern gaskets. I would on the old fashioned copper ones.

Hi Huib,

I assumed that would be the case with the modern head gasket. Thanks as always for your valuable feedback.

Best regards
Jacque.
