Good evening everyone
My Fulvia is giving me a tantrum that I had never heard of: I have been using it for at least 20 years, and for the first time last week, I was not able to drive with it, the engine started fine, but impossible to shift into one gear or the other. With the engine off, the lever moves well in the 5 positions, but if I start with a gear engaged, the car jumps and stalls.
I see sites on the web that talk about stuck clutch discs.
First I wonder how this can happen; I usually stop my car and leave it in gear to avoid applying the handbrake. I would like to point out that she sleeps in my unheated basement garage, where the temperature in winter should be around 12 to 15 degrees.
This spring I drove my car several times, without any problems, each time for a few dozen km to get it warmed up and everything working.
How can we take this off? do you have to remove the gearbox to access the clutch? The disc is relatively new, it is 4 years old and has been driven for 15,000 km
Thank you in advance for any experiences or ideas you may have.
Sincerely. George2 (France)

Re: stuck clutch disc ?
One way to try to free it is to start it in gear while holding the brake. Obviously this will depend on if you have some space in frond or behind it in case it jumps.

Hi, Thank you to reply fast
I tried this last week, after pulling the car out of the garage, to get some place front or rear, but without using the brakes
It gave no result, except car jumping and engine stalled (and flat battery)
Before leaving home for 2 weeks, I placed a strong peace of wood on the clutch pedal, so that it is at max low position, and place a loud piece of metal on it, hoping thay the springs in the clutch disc will do a pull-up
I will tell what happens when I am back home

Re: stuck clutch disc ?
I've had this issue. The clutch plate is stuck to the flywheel. To overcome this the car was started in gear and the clutch pedal released quickly. It's quite violent, but gets the job done.
Apparently, it happens in damp conditions. It.could also be due to rust on the input shaft due to a lack of grease, which prevents the clutch plate form moving back.
