Oil pressure Fulvia Berlina S2

Unread post by Overknasten »

Hello all.
I have a problem with my oilpressure.
When idling it´s 0 bar (oil pressure gauge in the dashboard)
2000 rpm. = 3.5 bar
3000 - 5000rpm. full pressure. I have swicted from 10/40 to 20/50 oil but nothing changed.
It´s the idling that worries me. I have cheked the oilpressure valve and it´s fine.
Can I check the oilpressure sensor in some way?
Any blockage in the oilpan that I should look for?
What is the next step?

I wrote it some time ago. Did not read it again now. Please, try it and come back if any more questions.

Hello again.
The pressure sensor is 1 - 6 bar. The instrument is 0 - 35 - 70 Veglia.
As shown on the picture I measured the resistance at 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 bar and the results are very strange.
0=913 ohm
1=850 ohm
2=430 ohm
3=1950 ohm
4=550 ohm
5=570 ohm
6=400 ohm
Yesterday I measured the resistance of the sensor to 20 ohm when it was still in place in the car. This is very confusing. is it broken? Am I doing something obvious wrong?
Having read Andrea´s post on oil pressure I can see that I shouldn´t expect more than 0,3 - 0,5 bar at 800 rpm. with 90 gr.C of oil temp and at those conditions I have a flickering needle in the dashboard.

My first suggestion is to try another sensor, good luck,

Let me know if the new one works. For a many years equivalent sensors ( 0 to 6 bar; 300 to 0 Ohm) have not been available.

The cause of the problem is bad contacts inside, both between wipers and wire wound resistor and the contact between cover and resistor.

What I normally do is open it, clean it (today very easy with an ultrasonic cleaner), callibrate it and close it again.

The new one is 0 - 8 bar. I will open the old one and clean it when the other one is in place.
I will be back.

The new one is in place and working. See pictures. I guess this is OK? I will open the old one and see if I can fix it as Huib describes.
Thanks a lot for all your help. A little wiser now and best of all - driving again.

Interesting.

The 0-8 bar sensors I have seen went just over 50% of full scale. About 40 to 45 when the scale is marked 0 35 70.
