a few of my problems on ie 16V

Unread post by Bart »

Hi all,

I bought my first Lancia today and trying to resolve some of the problems it has:

1. The automatic heating control only works for 2 seconds. That is if you put the ignition on (without starting the car), it works 2 seconds, so you have to be fast to change the settings. After that you cannot change any of it's settings. The system works when the car is running, you just cannot change it without shutting it down, putting ignition back on and change the settings real fast. Anyone have any idea? I checked the PCB of the thing but cannot see anything wrong at first sight.

2. The engine has an erratic idle. I suspect the ICV (idle control valve), thing is I can't find any... Could someone point me in the good direction please? The owner told me it would be something like an automatic choke that doesn't function the way it should. When starting the car it will idle at 500-600rpm. Sometimes the rpm will raise to 1000-1500rpm and get back to 500-600rpm instantly. What other things should/could I check? It has 130.000km.

3. The test-function doesn't work. Nothing happens when I press the button. Any common problems on that?

4. The checkpanel (?) that checks lights, open doors, etc. doesn't work either, nothing happens on the display..

5. The central locking system acts weird. Usually it will open all doors but won't lock them. I have to lock them manually. When trying to lock the doors with the central locking system, it will lock all doors but 1 second later unlocks them all. Could it be a switch or something in a door that doesn't function anymore?

At the moment these things are most important, the rest will follow after these problems are solved.

And yes, I like the car a lot! :)

Greetings,
Bart

I have no idea about this, but my does the same if the temperature is way high. Try look at the temperature sensor.

2. The engine has an erratic idle. I suspect the ICV (idle control valve), thing is I can't find any... Could someone point me in the good direction please? The owner told me it would be something like an automatic choke that doesn't function the way it should. When starting the car it will idle at 500-600rpm. This could be false air comming in between the air-speed/volume measurement and the intake.

3. The test-function doesn't work. Nothing happens when I press the button. Any common problems on that?

Is the fuse ok???

4. The checkpanel (?) that checks lights, open doors, etc. doesn't work either, nothing happens on the display..
Same fault.

5. The central locking system acts weird. Usually it will open all doors but won't lock them. I have to lock them manually. When trying to lock the doors with the central locking system, it will lock all doors but 1 second later unlocks them all. Could it be a switch or something in a door that doesn't function anymore?

If one of the doors have trouble locking then the system will automaticly open the doors. Look at locking mechanics, or if something is blocking the lock.

At the moment these things are most important, the rest will follow after these problems are solved.

And yes, I like the car a lot! :)

Hi Bart,

I had same problems with my automatic heating control system. I solved it by replacing a 2N5886 transistor on the resistor and speed governor (item numbers 82431515 and 82430687).

It took about 20 min. to complete replacement and cost of transistor was about 3USD. The cost for Resistor & Speed Governor spare part at service was 110EURO+VAT+Replacement cost.

Sincerely,
Rustam Bogubaev
