Turbo microswitch & heating system

Unread post by Teemu Kanerva »

I´m a 25 year old guy from Finland. I own a Thema Turbo 8V ´89, very good shape.
At the moment I have two problems, and I wonder if someone could help me:

1) The turbo "boost" function doesn´t work. I´ve checked the solenoid, it works. The switch beside the inlet manifold works also. The fault might be in the wire between those two components. Do You happen to know does the cable go straight from the microswitch to the solenoid, or is there anything (fuse or relay perhaps) in between them??
The turbo pressure is only 0.6 bars without the boost function.

2) The automatic heating system (no airconditioning) blows hot air all the time. The fan speed control works, but whatever temperature I choose, it always blows very hot air. The engine thermostat works fine. Any ideas??

Hi,

I have no words for your problem with the overboost (i have a 16v atmo and a 16v turbo) so try with a tester, the air condition system must be empty of coolant air. You can try to charge it in any specialized shop.

Bye !

Hello Teemu,
1) - The overboost is controlled by the Weber Marelli ECU and they don't usually give any trouble. Check the wiring to the solenoid. When you switch on the ignition the solenoid should activate and then go off, you should be able to hear the "clunk" if you get someone else to switch on the ignition while you listen. One side of the connection should be at 12 Volts, the switched side is driven down to ground when activated by the ECU. The overboost only works at full throttle so check that the linkage is giving that.

2) - Sounds like one of the electronic modules is not operating. A second or so after operating the control for temperature you should be able to hear a faint whirring noise from the servo motor - check this with ignition on but engine not running so that you can hear better. May be that good old problem of faulty earth at the servo motor unit.

Good luck, Leo
