thermoswitch THEMA

Unread post by kassus »

hi,

can anyone tell me what the characteristics (activating temperature, diameter of screw, or any other specific things I may overlook) are of the thermoswitch placed in the lower end of the radiator to start up the cooling fan on a Thema 2.0 16. the electric fan still works because i probe aplicatin 12 v, o when it takes the 90º don start to work. where i fond the porblem? thanks

Also: where do I find the bolt to bleed off the cooling liquid?

Thanks!
pol

Hi kassus,
according to the manual, it should switch on between 84°C and 90°C.
I also suspected the switch once, so i took it out, connected it to a ohmmeter and placed it in boiling water : it worked.
If it doesn't switch at 100°C, you can be sure it's no good.
To take it out of the radiator, simply unscrew it as if it where a bolt, (lots of) coolant wil come out of the hole.
To empty the radiator, you have to disconnect the lower hose, the engine also has a bolt to bleed of the liquid (but why should you use it ?).

One thing I forgot can be important ;
the thermoswitch doesn't switch the fan directly, but via a relay.
You can test the relay simply by short-circuiting the switch, if the fan starts to turn then, you know everything but the switch works.
