Elektronic review mirror?

Some time ago I saw a thema from 1993 (type 3) with a elektronic/elektric review mirror, I have only seen it on this particular car and not on other Themas including my own Thema turbo 1992. How does it work? (is it any good?) and can I replace my old manual mirror with this one?

My 93 16V VIS comes with the auto-dimming rear view mirror - when someone shines his high beam from behind, the mirror darkens automatically. I don't have to flip the mirror up and down.
