HAVE BOUGHT UMMM....2 FULVIA

Unread post by gamma a.i. »

UMM, WE NO LONGER OWN A FSZ S2.

WHILE IN N. IT (I was there on non-Lancia business, as I am 5 or 6 x per year) SEARCHING 4A REPLACEMENT FULVIA THERETO I viewed SEVERAL NICE/HONEST FULVIA S2 / S3 CPE THAT DID NOT REALLY FIT OUR XPECTATIONS - they were simply used Fulvia & not very cheap!

+ 2 THAT WERE A COUNTRY MILE (condition & price) FAR FROM XPECTATIONS. 1 semi-front-floorless S3 Ralley - lovely metallic blue - at a (non negotiable) price of a much nicer Fulvia S3 / 1 FSZ that looked horrible -even from 1 mile away- it was sloppy new paint coverning nothing behind the paint - non-negotiable price of a much much nicer FSZ. I hope no one no where buys this Z blind!

THEN - IN 1 AFTERNOON I SAW 3 FULVIA THAT COULD MEET OUR XPECTATIONS.

WITHIN 36 HOURS (of haggling) A DEAL WAS SEALED ON :
Black out / creme in / green Rugs "Regularity Ralley+" S3 *Ralley; Ralley is *(that is what the original & later titles read) with lots of recently installed bits & pieces. The "tasks" that were required to operate the car to meet any laws anywhere & our Xpectations were done at cost of owner; additional matters were paid for by buyer ! Details to follow - if any one cares
THAT WAS 6 WEEKS AGO.
now that Cpe is in our Brescia Warehouse awaiting arrival of a container to bring it here; along with other goods coming here anyway.

WITHIN 5 WEEKS (of hard & heavy haggling -VIA PHONE, MAIL & INTERMEDIARIES - A SORT OF MAYBE DEAL DEAL WAS ALMOST SEALED ON : White out / black in / green rugs S3 Ralley is *(what the original & later titles read) with lots of recently installed bits & pieces.

READ NEXT POST FOR SOME DETAILS ON THIS (lovely) S3

A SHORT UPDATE:

MY MY - ISNT BUYING A FULVIA IN ITALY FUN

2 DAYS AGO AT 14:00 4 ITALIANS & I DETERMINED THE FINAL SELL/BUY PRICE OF THE (near) CREMONA BIANCO S3 COUPE

THE SPECIALIST FOR "repairs to be done prior to shipping" HAD HIS POINTED CALCULATING PENCIL READY AS WE REVIEWED THE CREMONA S3; HE- ANTONIO & THE SELLERS( PAULO I & PAULO II) & MY DRIVER (of the day) - GUIDO - DISCUSSED EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN.

WHOM WOULD REPAIR WHAT WHERE WHEN, WHOM WOULD PAY WHAT % FOR THE REQUIRED TASKS; TIN; PAINT; ACID-BATH DIPPING, WELDING ETC - TO ACHIEVE A FULVIA MEETING EVERYONES EXPECTATIONS; MY WISHES

MY % OF THE "DEAL REACHED" WAS TO BE MORE THAN I WISHED IT TO BE, SO I JOINED IN THE CONVERSATION.
NO BLOOD; NO DENTED HEADS.

I:
RECEIVED ALL CAR PAPERS/DOCUMENTS/HISTORY** - ALL REPAIR / SERVICE INVOICES SINCE 1975;
WE:
PLANNED TO DRIVE TO DEREGISTRATION OFFICE WITH PAULO II
&
TO BANK WITH PAULO I - IN THE FULVIA !

IT WOULDN'T BUDGE; FRONT BRAKES WERE LOCKED.

THE PRICE ENTERED ON THE CONTRACT WAS CORRECTLY PAID TO THE BANK

AFTER I COUNTED OUT AGREED UPON PRICE AT BANK, WHY I WAS THEN GIVEN * € 200 BACK - BY PAULO I - I DO NOT KNOW ?
NOR DID I ASK !!!.
I WAS HAPPY.
PERHAPS TO PARTIALLY ALIEVIATE MY PAIN FOR MY % OF REPAIRS.

WHEN WE RETURNED TO GROUP ANTONIO DISCOUNTED MY % OF THE REAPIRS THAT HE WOULD DO BY € 200; SO I DIDN'T DRIVE 750km HOME TOTALLY BROKE !!

THE BRAKES WERE REPAIRED PRIOR TO CLOSING TIME.

IN ?? DAYS THE VARIOUS TASKS WILL BE FINISHED & SOMEONE (not me) WILL DRIVE THE CAR TO THE TRANSPORT COMPANY.

** I DISCOVERED 1 DAYS AFTER RETURNING HOME THAT I WAS ALSO GIVEN THE PAPERS/DOCUMENTS/HISTORY** OF A 1974 FIAT 500 ABARTH CLONE - WHICH WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE DEAL; THIS RATHER FAT PACKET WILL BE REGISTER MAIL RETURNED TOMORROW

more later

We have been recently informed that the latest trend in "auto-body/chassis restoration" is to paint the vehicle underside with the same paint/same color as the upper side; then flood those areas with tons of wax; inches / tons of black-tar undercoating is out of fashion; I assume that too much "unseen-damage" can be hidden inside cabin & under floor/wheel wells.

Now we understand why our newly purchased Fulvia -that we had planned are to transport y from Cremona, IT to Brescia, It for "final-preps" prior to having it truck-transported to Heidelberg has a lovely shiny white wheel-well paint decor....the latest fad !
OK, we will learn to love it !

In any case, the car will not be shipped prior to end of month; due to repairs required, including rewelding sloppy (old) floor replacement welds & interior/exterior sealing of floor & general "spiffing-up", as recommended by Antonio (read last post)

in lieu of only enjoying an oven-hot hand-placed in our office pizza-oven instant-pizza healthily embellished by JSG with extra whatevers for lunch & drinking cheap Vino Rosso (good for the Bbod!) from plastic-cups; which we are now doing- I will also post a post here, between bites
& sips, right now:....

Picture in your mind the most shiny-black S3 Coupe that you've ever seen; sitting tail-up on fat unblemished Chromad' wheels with deep-tread fat non-white-letter Goodyears, interior of: black leather rudder with Lancia Badge & new cream flawless interior with original (like new - almost) green carpets plus Lancia-Logo correct fit - f&r black floor mats. Your mind now sees our new S3; which arrived at the local MOT (Tuev in Germany) station from Italy in our low-bed truck (us not driving this time).
The pallets that surrounded the S3 during transit arrived at our warehouse at "its already past quitting time" yesterday evening ...everyone pitched in & unloaded in record time; including 2 "Customs-Agents"; checking the accuracy of the import & counting every nail on every pallet ! Actually, they counted only the # of pallets & went home.

Tuev Chief told me yesterday evening (were they working overtime?)- "only fault we've seen in 1st 30 minutes of 10 technicians sitting in, looking in, looking unde; drooling over - is a "less than perfect handbrake" - which is now OK". You can maybepick it up in 2 or 3 days, we will call you !

No we will not drive it ... tooooooo far !

OK, OK, photos will folo, although I feel that it is a little like boasting blush blush.

do I (we) miss our FSZ....honestly - NO, since we would have (again) no time to drive it anywhere.

further investigation by Tuev discovered 2 holes in the floor - 1 each under the rear seat, in the same centralized position / both obviously punched out by a tool, neither showing any signs if rust.
Still they recommended welding them shut. Jerks !
Today I looked the holes / the location of holes to discover what I then showed the Experts.
I explained & visually showed them that these holes are no doubt drainage-holes for water that would otherwise reside under rear seat until rust perferation allowed drainage.

Can someone confirm this ?

We found no pull-switch for 4 way flashers, but did discover several non-connected wires in the fuse box ! All fuses are fine !

Does anyone know which fuse is for the (pre-wired?) 4 way flashers ?

I assume that in the 60's / 70's 4 ways were not required in Italia ?

Any / all tips appreciated

The Shop-Crew said - if it was new paint it wouldn't be acceptable, but is is fine for a very old repaint, it lived in a garage & is still quite shiny

But in Germany it is X(

regards

all imported Fulvia Monte Carlo have had this " problem " because, they was built only for the italian market.

your source, my source ... both seem to be correct.

I will see (our) new white S3 in Brescia again as soon as:
"little-matters that are never little- matters" are corrected; "little matters" that I saw & accepted before the purchase was made.

At the purchase price I could not really demand that all little-matters be corrected; however ...the seller (Giampaulo) realized that brake work required for safe driving / actually required for any driving could not be charged to the me buyer. Sticking / not Releasing go nowhere brakes.
.
1 week earlier brakes were fine; I know, I pumped them late & hard at Giampaulo's Dads's instructions.
1 week later - sitting in the Dad's small-repair gargage - as always for the last 5 or 6 years -they were frozen ?
Just before the long fast- fast for me anyway - drive , they had been rebuillt by Dad. On the pre purchase drive they were perfectly fine (only me driving) with this funny little grey haired man (dad) screaming "Vai Vai; go go go".

After brake re-repair in G'Paulo's shop they were again fine. On the next test drive I drove it like it was already mine...speedy but not crazy !
I was not driving it anywhere as fast as G'Paulo was several minutes later.

I also demanded that seat/shoulder belts be installed prior to the 2d drive - no matter what IT law of early 70's didn't require, I do !

Other matters-to-be-done are being done elsewhere close-by to G'palulos shop, by steel cutting/welding specialist, Angelo of Roccafranca, who inspected the Fulvia at the Dad's auto-shop. He saw (with x-ray eyes) 'more to do' than I; with magnets, guages, rubber & plastic hammers saw.

Good Man Angelo !

G'pauloseemed to be totally booked-out with many major tasks until 2015 or beyond; the line of cars that are to enter his shop is quite long; the speed that his "Staff" move at maybe would set new Pit-Stop records...them boys don't dilly-dally around !

Several newish Maseratis, a few Benzs of vintage years, many everyday cars...even a 308 Horserari are in the line

G'paulo actually gave Angelo a # of steel-related contractual tasks to accomplish at the same time as the Fulvia is being tackeled & thereafter
This means (I assume) that finishing Fulvia will take longer; but I am in no hurry.

Angelo agreed on a price we could both live with before agreeing to tackle matters Fulvia.

I've seen many fotos of the progress thus far!.

How did so much corrosion stayed hidden under the chrome trim of trunk lid ? How did so much corrosion stayed hidden under paint on upper-side & underside of trunk lid ? It is a mystery to me. It seems to be quite a mojor task getting this (rather-simple) matter taken care of correctly -as shown in many fotos !

I do wonder what a new (recreation) Fulvia trunk panel would cost ?

Photos of some Fulvia soon !
