Timing belt out

Timing belt out

Unread post by Mark Collins »

Hi all.
Last week my 89 Thema just died on me as I got to the end of my road. I was really doing no more than 10 mph, and I have since dicovered that the bearings in the tensionser collapsed and this allowed excess slack and the belt slipped. The car just died on me. There seems to be no obvious damage to the engine and the
cams still turn freely and the valves appear to be moving freely. However, I have no idea how to reset the timing and cannot find a manual. There appear to be a mark on the inside of the wheel at the end of each camshaft, and the inlet manifold camshaft appears to have another mark offset on the outside. I assume the cams on the inlet valve and exhaust valve camshafts should be 180 degrees apart.
Any help/advise gratefully received.

The cams has a mark, which should be upwards( there is a mark on the head)
The crankshaft has also a mark bus is hard to find, otherwise set the sensor and sensormark in line.

The balancing timing has also marks on the shield on the front balancer, and on the waterpump on the rear balancer, the crankshaft has a marking which should be upwards.

Best regards
