crankshaft/balance belt
crankshaft/balance belt
I have just bought a 92 1.8ie with 96k on the clock.
I have no recent history on the car so decided to change the cambelt for safety.
My mechanic is unable to budge the nut on the crankshaft and has warned me he is in serious danger of breaking the nut off!
Also the previous owner looks as if they may have given up on a similar attempt, there was no balance belt on when the mechanic started working on the car. Preseumably this engine should have a balance belt on?
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
Re: crankshaft/balance belt
i hope your mechanic is trying to undo the nut the right way . they are self tightening nuts therefore to undo you turn them to the right to undo as though you were tightening them. it shuold have a balance shaft belt on but they run ok with out. they are only there to stop engine viberation.good luck.
Re: crankshaft/balance belt
Makes hell of a difference to the smoothness of the engine though!
