With the gasket if I read correct.

Thank you! I had forgotten that I too have an original Concise repair shop manual for Lancia 2000 models. So far I've been using the pdf-manuals for earlier models from viva-lancia.

So, no any kind of glue to liner gaskets? Ok, sounds a bit daring, but obviously the rather modest looking paper gaskets do the job by themselves.

You can use glue, but the force needed to disassemble in future will be bigger.

I know the Viva-Lancia CD's, I compiled most of them and I do the manufacture/shipping.

Well, this is a Lancia at its best - with proper maintenance and modern oils it is probably me, who will sooner be "disassembled." B)

Well, this was not yet completely clear. After cleaning it turned out, that there is some corrosion on the top of all liners, all the way to the area of flame rings:

So, it seems that a small slice needs to be machined off from the liners, maybe 0.1-0.2mm.

My question is, how much does the paper gasket compress from its thickness as new? The gaskets that I have are 0.3mm thick. If presumed that with these 0.3mm gaskets the height of the unmachined liners would be correct, would a 0.5mm thick gaskets do, if 0.2mm is machined off? Mathematically yes, but do thicker papers compress significantly more, or is the height always as specified regardless of the thickness of the gaskets? In any case I'll need to fabricate either extra gaskets, or new thicker ones.

This is my first time working with "wet-type" cylinders, so these things are not that clear.

Hello,
the correct thickness of the paper gasket is 0,1mm, in case of needs you have to use more than one as per workshop manual instructions. I saw the 0.3mm ones like your and, in my opinion, that material is not suitable for the appilication because is normal gasket papers and is too soft for using for the liners. When you will tight the head bolts at the prescribed torque is possible that they loose the original thickness.
Regarding your lines, looking the pictures, seems that are not in so good shape, seems slightly corroded also on the internal surface. If you are interested, I'm about to reproduce the liners, basing on orginal specification, for my Flavia coupè. I can made 4 more. Let me know.
Kind regards
Giovanni

I just noticed that I had missed this post, sorry. My engine block and liners were at machine shop, and they were machined about 0.1mm off from them both (the surfaces on engine block were damaged with very coarse sandpaper by some ancient "mechanic".) Looks like that did the job, and the sealing surfaces look now ok. Before final assembly I'll of course need to check the compression rate, as the heads also needed to have 0.3mm machined off due to corrosion.

I've just not had the time for my Flavia, because our house turned out to be in need of major reparation in basement. Hope to have that sorted out by autumn.
