2 litre turbo into 1600 hf?

Unread post by Morris »

Hi everyone!

I just bought a 1600 hf turbo i.e. without engine and I was wondering what can i put in it? 1600 turbo? Integrale 2000 turbo? I've found a fiat coupe 2000 16v turbo engine for good price, is it possible to put this engine into my delta or, for saving money and time, I could put a 1600 hf engine with bigger turbo and intercooler?

Fitting a balancer shaft engine in a two wheel drive engine is far from easy. It is not possible to use the engine mounting that fits on to the waterpump because the balancer shaft is there. There are no standard parts to do this, you would need to use a combination of integrale mounts and fabricate something for the drive shaft that runs across the back of the block.
In any case you would find that the extra power would wreck the HF Turbo transmission fairly quickly - fitting an integrale transmission would be good fun.
The manifolds from anything other than a Delta engine will not fit in the available space.
Apart from all that - go for it!

Any 2 litre conversions that have been done involve using a non balancer shaft block (Beta or FIAT Croma).

Was about to fit a 8V Turbo to my Delta GT... the only thing needed to be replaced (as far as i've seen) was the pillar of the suspension because it had a support to the counter balancing shaft
