HI!!
I own a Delta 1.4 model of 1994. I face a problem that seems to be quite difficult for all the mechanics i have visited and remains unsolved. When the engine is cool it starts up at once at the first try. However when it warms up, especially after a drive on tough mountain road, and you turn the engine off, afterwards when you attempt to start it up, it wont react. I turn the key on the ignitor, I hear the starter working fine but the egine does not start up, unless you try a lot. After half an hour or more of rest the engine starts up fine again. I notice the same problem when the car is parked under hot sun for many hours. Moreover, when the car reaches normal temp occassionaly it does some jerks during acceleration and in extreme conditions the engine even stalls in the middle of the road. I must add that above 4000-4500 rpm a ''metal,'' rough, sound is heard, when I put a lower gear in order to slow down before a sharp turn the engine jerks and the temp gauge shows 100C instead of the normal 90C in normal operation conditions. I have changed the thermostat and the engine coolant pump but the high temp remains. Starter, sparkles, spakle plugs, distributor, fuel pump(? not sure),fuel filter seem to be all O.k. but my poor Lancia still hates high temp, it does not start up when hot, and if she does she runs roughly.
PLEASE help me!! She makes my life hard but I want to keep her...in spite of her 130.000km.
Delta 1.4cc year1994 WEIRD jerks and stalls when engine is hot
Re: Delta 1.4cc year1994 WEIRD jerks and stalls when engine is hot
Seems like a temperature related problem then. I don't know much about the Nuovo Delta so I can only guess.
If you have a multipoint injection system on the 1,4 litre engine, a possible cause for your starting problems could be broken or worn gaskets around the injectors. These O-shaped rubber gaskets tend to leak on older engines letting excessive air to get into the engine past the throttle. Enough to make the engine tough to start at certain temperatures. It is well worth a try to replace these gasketst since they are quite cheap. Just bring an injector to your local carpart dealer and they will find you a new set.

Hello,
My Delta integrale had a weird problem of stalling and jerking. I could not see any pattern to when the fault occurred. It would run ok for days and then run like a pig for days. Eventually I found the problem when my nephew slammed the door shut! The engine stalled and when he repeated the slam again the engine stalled. The wires that connect to the sensor on the crankshaft pulley had become brittle and were both actually broken near the connector. Goodness knows how the engine ran at all but it must have depended on how I dorve iver bumps! I spliced in new wire and all was well. If your car has done a lot of miles then the wiring may have become brittle. I checked the other sensors and re-wired most of them (the temperature sensor wires were replaced two years ago).
