Lancia Delta HPE 1999
Lancia Delta HPE 1999
Hi group
Just wondering how I can reduce the wind noise on my Delta HPE 1999. Even though it seems to have alot of different door seal rubbers alot of wind noise comes from it. Also making it quieter in general as there seems to be a serious lack of sound proofing in it. Anybody also know if on the windscreen pillars there is suppose to be some rubber between the Coloured cover plates and the pillar as I think alot of the noise is coming from there.
Cheers

Re: Lancia Delta HPE 1999
mine is not especially noisy which version do you have? have you checked that the front windows seat properly in the door seals if you shut the windows when running at speed the suction from the air tends to pull the glass out a little too far causing the glass not to slot in as designed. I had mine up to 130-ish (mph not kph !!
) in Germany a couple of years back and don't remember it being particularly noisy even at that speed

Re: Lancia Delta HPE 1999
Thanks Alan
Yeah it just seems there is not much sound-proofing in it. It is a 1999 Lancia Delta HPE 16v 1.6. All seals look good just seems there is alot of windnoise.

Re: Lancia Delta HPE 1999
can't explain the windnoise beyond saying check the seating of your side windows carefully, as regards other noise i have the 2.0 hf and would say that it is good overall but of course the turbocharger probably helps with engine noise a little. I've only been in a 1.6 once can't say that I thought it especially noisy but didn't take much notice at the time.
Re: Lancia Delta HPE 1999
It is really just wind noise and road noise , I am thinking of installing some more soundproofing in the door sheels as it seems the noise comes from inside the door cavity from both sides. I have been used to driving a Alfa 164 which has 3 seperate door seals so hence was whisper quiet. Any suggestions on how difficult it is to take the interior door panels off.
Re: Lancia Delta HPE 1999
never took the panels off but I would guess not difficult once you've worked out where all the screws are for armrests etc. If you have a lot of noise in the cavity I'd be looking to see if there are any holes that should be blanked off first that could be the cause of the problem due to passing air getting in, my doors seem to feel and sound pretty solid, I get some windnoise from the top rear corners and also a very little from the front screen pillars but really only on very windy days
Re: Lancia Delta HPE 1999
Hardy,
Hi, like Alan I have an HF version and agree that the wind noise is not a problem. Coming on to taking the door panels off, I have had to do this twice when the door lock failed with the door shut and can tell you that the security features are good.
However, here are the positions of the bolts in the door.
1 - is behind the electric window buttons, to remove the buttons undo the bolt underneath the switch.
2 - is in the centre of the door catch, remove the plastic cover.
3 - is behind the reflector at the back of the door (difficult to trmove with the door closed)
4 - is on the side of the door at the top (difficult to trmove with the door closed)
5 - on of the door pocket bolts
I think there is another, but is apparent when you have fond these, you may also find it easy to remove the review mirror cover on the inside when refitting the door.

Re: Lancia Delta HPE 1999
Thanks Simon
It seems the noise is coming from down near where the seal runs along the top of the inner side of the door. It is from both doors as I have ridden in passenger seat and it is in that door also. Maybe I am just being picky but my Alfa 164 is whisper quiet in that respect. Lookind down inside the door with the window there only seems to be one seal which is the one I can view from the top. I know the Alfa 164 has a secondary seal below the visible one which I think what the Lancia lacks.
On another note how often should the plugs be replaced , it is a 1.6 16V HPE , it has a bit of a stutter under acceleration. Also is it much of a job the replace the bushes in the gear linkage , it was a fairly simple job in a Lancia Beta I had years ago.

Re: Lancia Delta HPE 1999
I have an HF 5d 94. I had the same problem since the car was new. It was very unpleasent and i decided to use Dynamat. It's a company producing special materials for sound absorbing , but you can find similar materials at any hardware store.
Take a look at their site to understand the noise inside the car .... www.dynamat.com
The car is so quiet as my new 166 V6 ....

Gents
I have found where the noise is coming from , the inside seal that funs along the door top does not sit hard against the glass so all the sound from inside the door is coming up. My question is now when they came from the factory did they have a felt rub strip there or did they just rely on rubber seal. Most cars have the rubber seal and a felt seal below on the seal. Otherwise I am going to have to pull the door liner off and try and put a felt seal there.
