Lancia 8v to 16v????

Unread post by Stas »

I was looking for a lancia HF integrale EVO II, but all that i found was a 1989 8v 128.000km black lancia in pretty good shape(7.000 EUR with history book) .
Now i have a lancia thema 2.0i 16v 256.000km, but its the same engine only without the turbo and the intercooler.
My question is, can i change the 8v from the integrale to 16v from my lancia but only the upper part of the engine. IF this is possible, will it increase the power?

i would say keep looking for an evo if that is what you want, I cannot imagine that what you propose is possible. the 8v motor is not so bad anyway, infact it is probably more durable and the mid range power is little different to a 16v so in normal driving you may not notice a lot of difference.

It is possible but i'd forget it due to the following reasons:
1: The 16v non turbo head probably has the wrong type of valves fitted for a turbo engine (Will burn out quickly).
2: The valves are a different size on the Thema engine reducing the power.
3: You will need the 16v Turbo Ecu & Wiring and a lot of patience to sort it out.
4: There are lots of other differences between a 8v&16v (Turbo, Diff etc) so it will never be right.

I would stick to the 8v for the following reasons:
1: You can chip a 8v to around 235HP easily and cheaply, if you want more power you can get a sports exhaust, gas flowed head and Fiat Ritmo/Strada 130 Abarth cams (One thing worth using is a 16v throttle body as its probably bigger!).
2: The low down torque of the 8v on the road makes up most of the difference in power of a 16v.
3: It will be worth more in the furture as it will be more original.
4: You can save up for an Evo!

I suggest to look on this forum which is for Delta owners:

Start reading the FAQ page (There is a link on the start page) as this will answer almost any question.
