My clocks have started to play up, the speedo works intermittently and whereas the rev counter used to sit at 750rpm on tick over it now leaps up and down and rests at 1500, Any ideas?

Cheers

Hi Jonathan,
The Speedo problem will be the sensor unit in the transmission - definitely.
Is the engine speed going up and down with the rev counter or is just the instrument? If the idle speed is too fast check the little black vacuum pipes that feed the heater controls - especially the ones on the small black reservoir beside the bonnet catch on the nearside. The rubber connections perish and let air enter.

Hi Leo,
Thanks, I'll replace the sensor for the speedo.

The engine idles spot on 750rpm since the carb was rebuilt by HB Tuning in Glasgow (would recomend them!) its the rev counter giving a false reading. Its only noticable when sitting at traffic lights etc, and the car is ticking over, the rev counter leaps up and down at random and sometimes will stick completely at 1500rpm. Its only when you move off that it resets.

Thanks again
Jonathan

PS Do you still have the integrale front light units you mentioned back when I bought the standard headlamp from you at Harthill? You said at that point you didn't think you would use them, are you interested in selling them?
