Re: Lancia Flaminia Saxomat
Walt,
Knowing how Lancia operated, I would suspect that the 813.36 cars were all sent over with Saxomat clutch systems. I would suspect that some of those cars were converted to the traditional clutch sysem as the Saxomat's started breaking over the years. From the Saxomat I had owned, the conversion would be rather simple. The brake pedal was changed to a wider pedal similar to detroit cars of the period. The shift linkage would remain the same as the normal Berlina as the Saxomat used the normal Berlina linkage. The centrifugal clutch would be removed. I don't know if the Saxomat would use a different driveshaft. I would think the pedal box would need to be changed for a normal clutch. I will attach a couple of pictures of the pedals for the Saxomat Berlina and a picture of the engine compartment showing the clutch actuator depresses the clutch when one touches the shift lever to change gears. The clutch actuator is next to the windshield washer bottle.
Tom, I would recommend you do a similar conversion as the Saxomat will be unfixable as the years go by.

Re: Lancia Flaminia Saxomat
several lancia owners here in town have recommended a similar conversion to a traditional clutch set up. since the engine is out of my car it would simplify the conversion at this stage.

If you are in the US you can order the rubber carpets from Mike Kristick who gets them from Italy. His phone number is (717) 292-2962 and email is makristick@aol.com. Carpets are going to have to made. Bill Hirsch has a full line of the Wilton Wool carpet materials that were used on higher end imported cars. If you are on the east coast, you should attend the American Lancia Club reunion in New York this September to meet members with similar cars and restoration experiences. You also should join the American Lancia Club. There is a Berlina that usually attends the reunion.

Re: Lancia Flaminia Saxomat
thanks. i plan on sending in the lancia club membership application. do you have any additional details (or a place where i can find them) for the new york event?
i've been to mike's place in penna twice already as i am only a couple hours away. working down my list of needed parts. he certainly has some awesome cars in process of being restored. very helpful.
the interior picture was quite helpful - it really helps me visualize just where some of those interior trim parts need to go, i have a copy of the original parts manual but sometimes the illustrations (although quite detailed usually) don't have all of the items listed. that picture is the interior of this flaminia, of course once i get it put back together. all i need to finalize what it originally looked like is the color of the headliner - likely a shade of gray or tan?
thanks again.
