Engine Rattle
I have an engine rattle on my newly acquired Appia 2. Apart from the rattle it runs smoothly and appears to be quite strong. The rattle is definitely coming from the front end (not the water pump as I ran it with the belt off) so I suspect the timing chain. Can someone explain how the timing chain t...

Front brakes
Doing a brake overhaul on my Appia series 2 and am a bit confused. The repair manual and all the parts suppliers show the series 2 having single brake cylinders at the front and only the series 3 having two. Mine definitely has 2. Maybe late series 2 were built with 2 or maybe mine has been modified...

Appia 2 gauges
I am completing the recommissioning of my Appia series 2 and want to change the speedo cable and change a few light bulbs in the back of the gauges. How on earth is this done? My hand will not reach in from under the dash so I guess the gauges must come out but I cannot work out how???

Re: Oil pressure build up
I think I may have the answer to my delayed oil pressure build up. Reading the overhaul manual the oil filter base assembly has an anti oil drain back valve to keep the filter full of oil when engine switched off. If this is not working then the filter will have to refill every start. I cannot work ...

Re: Oil pressure build up
Am using 10-40 semi synthetic and have done so for years. I have just cleaned the relief valve by simply unscrewing the 22 mm nut and witdrawing the spring and squirting solvent down the hole. This has made no difference. I guess next step is undoing the 32 mm nut behind it and doing the job properl...

Oil pressure build up
I have noticed recently that it is taking about 7-8 seconds for the oil pressure to start registering on the gauge. Once it does it goes up to maximum at 1200 rpm. When hot the oil pressure is maximum from about 2,500 rpm. Is this normal? I would have thought it should start registering pressure alm...

Re: Inspecting bearings without removing engine
I like that plan. With a bit of luck my wife may get 1/2 a kitchen! My argument is that the present kitchen works well but my engine works badly.

Re: Inspecting bearings without removing engine
Huib, Your offer is the first real positive offer I have had regarding my problem. Thank you. I have learned a lot from the Forum and also from asking the experts here. As you know one of the problems there may be with the engine is the conrod may be compromised/deformed, so best if they all come ou...

Re: Inspecting bearings without removing engine
"Tang to Tang". What I mean is that the shells were put in the caps correctly but the big end cap is supposed to be bolted to the con rod ge with the tang side of one shell mated against the flat edge of the opposite shell. If the bottom cap is rotated 180 then the two tang edges are mated...
