I'm trying to get my early Coupe insert type suspensionstruts to work and for this purpose have taken them apart. I found that the inserts are of the open type and have the oil in the strut. The insert is placed in the oil filled housing. Does anyone know what Sae oil to use and how much? It seems the inserst can be overhauled which is great since they cannot be bought new. I just have to know how to do this. it is not in the haynes manual.

I believe that kyb do or did inserts until recently good chance of finding those somewhere

unfortunately they only do (or did) rears. I found on the net some info on the rebuiling of the original inserts.
