I have the usual rust (slight in my case fortunately) on the lower edge of the windshield and plan to remove the windshield and it's stainless edging to make the repair. If either is broken or damaged in the process, are there replacements anywhere? A NOS windscreens source?
thanks,
Johnny
Beta Windscreen Replacement/stainless surround?
Re: Beta Windscreen Replacement/stainless surround?
Hi Johnny,
I recently had my car rebuilt and it was very difficult to say the least to fing another stainless edging. Might i guggest that you take the edging to someone who could perhaps repair it. I have had stainless parts galvanised with a stainless finish. Give it a look!

Johnny,
I don't know where you're based, but there's a Beta specialist in Germany who has had a batch of windscreens remade. Go here:
www.betamot.de
... pick the Beta link on the left, then scroll down to the bottom of the page where it says "Scheiben-Nachfertigung".
I've often read that there's only a 50-50 chance of getting the screen out without breaking it. Another thing to bear in mind: some screens (probably the earlier ones) have a wire around the edge where the glass is bonded to the frame. I think that when you remove the stainless steel trim you can see the ends of the wire sticking out somewhere. The idea is to apply an electric current to the wire to heat the adhesive for easier removal. Good luck!

Re: Beta Windscreen Replacement/stainless surround?
I will watch this space with great interest as I've put up with a windshield wiper scuffed screen to look through for years. My mechanic (Tony Toscano in Los Angeles) had a source of windshields from South Africa but I'm not sure if that source exists any longer. I didn't go for it because the only replacement job I saw resulted in the loss of the stainless molding which, to me, is unacceptable.
Re: Beta Windscreen Replacement/stainless surround?
those scuffson your screen,if you get a soft to medium felt polishing wheel and use a drill or grinder ,mix up some rare earth(jewllers rouge) to a paste , not to thick and be careful not to get the screen to hot otherwise it crack, asumeing the scuffs are not scracthes you may have some luck!
